Hi there! Apologies if a similar question has been asked earlier in one of the rehab threads, I'm still making my way through them!

Do you see a reason to give this bag a bath? It looks as though it's not been used much. No odors or stains apparent.

Because it's a lighter color and I'm a huge klutz, I'd like to put something on it to protect it. I'm most concerned about water and oil/grease from my hands as I handle it.

I have BlackRocks and Obenauf's on the way for another project - would either of those work for this bag? I thought I read that one - possibly both? - of those could darken the leather a bit. For me, that's an okay price to pay if that means I can worry less about the bag.

Thanks in advance! Now off to bake...
I probably wouldn't dunk unless there is gooey stuff on the inside. I would use Blackrocks. If it darkens, it is usually temporary. Remember glove-tanned leather scratches easily and you just have to get used to that. Blackrocks will help. You'll have to reapply it every month or two. Make sure you use the Blackrocks sparingly and immediately wipe of the excess with a paper towel. Otherwise it will be sticky.

Thank you, Whateve! I really appreciate your advice! And your super quick response - you beat the brownies I was baking, hands down!

The bag looks like it's barely been touched inside or out, so it doesn't seem there's any reason to dunk it then. I will apply Blackrocks as soon as it arrives. Just to be sure - how much would you need to cover an entire Baxter sparingly? I haven't used Blackrocks before so I'm not sure what the consistency is like - would a (US) quarter-sized amount be enough, or too much?

And yes, scratches from fingernails and other things are unfortunately a fact of life. That's actually one reason that I'm drawn to vintage Coach, though - they can stand up to a beating!

Many, many thanks again! :balloon:

I don't know how much Blackrocks an entire bag uses. I put a gob on my fingertips and rub it around until I run out, then I buff that with a paper towel. Then I repeat on a fresh part of the bag. I don't think the problem comes from initially putting too much on; it is from not wiping enough off.

Thanks so much for clarifying! I'll make sure I don't leave any excess on the bag, and I'll keep making my way through all of the helpful rehab posts for additional tips. Thanks again!

Oh, thanks so much! Can't wait to start using it as soon as the Blackrocks arrives! :D

Hope everyone's week is off to a good start!

Hi guys! I am new to rehabbing and am very inspired by this thread. Recently, I did a NYC Doctor Bag that came out beautiful!

I need help... I just purchased a bag for rehab, not sure what this style name is. Anyhow, she has a really noticeable area of wear underneath the flap. I'm not sure how to handle this because from experience, conditioning makes areas of wear more noticeable.

Any ideas of how to handle this? The color of this bag is very strange, kind of like a greyish tan (not sure how it will come out when I wash her, or if I wash her, so I am not sure I can match up a paint color.

I would definitely wash it. That looks like there was an ink mark there and someone tried to clean it off. It is possible the stain is just from water or the cleaner they used and will wash away. Or maybe they scrubbed too hard and destroyed the surface. Or it could be a grease stain.

Often you won't know the real color of an item until after it has been washed and conditioned.

I've been meaning to ask this for awhile and finally just remembered. Has anyone tried both the Cadillac condtioner and Apple? I recently picked up Cadillac because I was conditioning my Vachetta Borough and one of the threads discussing this mentioned using Cadillac.

I wouldn't have bought Cadillac if I hadn't been out of my usual lighter weight conditioner, I usually use Leather CPR or Apple. Anyway, I noticed the Cadillac smelled just like Apple but seemed more watery. It worked fine, just curious if anyone else has used both and noticed this? Sometimes when I buy from Amazon or eBay I worry that the sellers have tampered with the ingredients. This stuff is fine even if it's supposed to be this way.

I got this to add to my "cute bags" collection, (I don't know the official name anyway), a Ltd Ed. something...

Inside says that it is vachetta leather, how do I clean the couple stains on it? Can I dunk this? The strap is suede that needs to be cleaned as well, and metallic underneath, too many textures to deal with, I do not want to mess it up. Any advice from the experts will be very much appreciated. :smile1:

I've used a magic eraser dipped in vinegar on vachetta. For the suede, you can use a nail brush.

I've been tempted by that style many times but I rarely carry my small hobos.

Thank you Whateve. :smile1:

I need to ask if the magic eraser/vinegar is to rub the stains only or the whole bag? If the stains only, won't it leave a bigger mark? The nail brush dipped in vinegar too?

I found this little video while looking for something else...thought it might be useful for your vachetta question. Sacsmagnifiques demonstrates how to remove a denim transfer from vachetta using magic eraser and acetone.

Quick opinion please:
Has anyone ever received a bag where the part of strap with the buckle (the straps that look like a belt buckle. For example, the type of strap on a city bag) was attached was backwards? It's this bag link

Is this reason for SNAD on ebay? She didn't mention it in the listing and of the 5 pictures of the bag showing the strap, 4 of them showed the strap curled around the bag so you couldn't tell. I noticed it in the last picture only after I knew exactly what I was looking for.
