I'm pretty excited to report some success I've had with ink on a white bag. I neglected to take a picture of the ink mark before I did anything. The first picture is after the first treatment. It was a lot worse before that. I put that on before I went to bed so no sun exposure. After the second treatment, I put it in the sun for about an hour. I don't know if the sun helps. It seems it worked some without it.

I got the idea from JaNan16. Here is her original post: http://forum.purseblog.com/showpost.php?p=27876836&postcount=7645 It's on page 510 of this thread.

Impressive!

That is just amazing!

Any comment on this bag? TIA

Can you post the link to that bag's listing please? It looks like it might be on Etsy? If I could Zoom in on it I might have some thoughts. Thanks.

ETA: Never mind, found it:

The only part that seems to need work is the piping around the bottom. The rest of the bag looks pretty clean. Perhaps some of the other rehab experts will chime in about cleaning that light colored piping. If it were me, I wouldn't want to pay that much for a bag that might or might not clean up, even with expert knowledge (which I DO NOT have!)

So, this return a net of under $30 if you kept it. I think you really want this bag, so maybe $30 is worth it to you? You could put a leather patch UNDER the rip, and glue it to the inside. I think you still have one side handle not compromised on the torn side, and two connections holding on the other side, that would hold under most conditions. And it wouldn't look too bad. You could use something other then leather for that patch too, like any old purse handle you have lying around ( maybe nylon) if you really wanted to get crafty, you could also use button thread and a leather needle ( I have done it on horse tach) and put stitch on the edge. But, I think the patch would hold. If you have to cover up the hobble patch, most double tassels would set right there. Or turn that side always in.

Bag was $35.51 including shipping. The damage was unlikely to be caused by USPS because the box was in perfect condition. I think (and I told them I thought) that someone had grabbed the bag while it was caught or tangled with something else and damaged the bag. Ugh. This goodwill is kind of a scam; another bag I purchased from them arrived today and while they charged me $9.97 for shipping, I know for fact that it cost them $5.65 (if not less, because they used a flat rate envelope)

The latest news is that they will refund the bag and original shipping, but not for return shipping. I'm peeved. In the end, if I return the bag, I'm out $12 for shipping and bagless. Any ideas on quick and dirty fixes? I'm still deciding whether or not to return. I read a few threads mentioning leather cement and edge kote, but I still don't understand what the differences are and what they are used for. Would either of these help?

I bought a Coach Grommet bag from goodwill not too long ago it was supposed to be in good condition. But when I got it it was missing a grommet and the handle looked as though part of it had been chewed off. None of the pictures showed it. I would have had to replace the handles.
I specifically asked for a refund for the entire price plus the shipping. I also sent them pictures of the damage. They offered to refund the price of the bag but not the shipping. I was so mad it was going to cost me around 15.00.
I decided to take the survey on the on the page that I bought the purse on. I told them that it was misrepresented and lo and behold they decided to give me the a ticket for the shipping so I wouldn't have to pay for it either.
I wonder if the survey went to the headquarters and the individual store was pressured to make things right.

Hi everyone! I'm new to all of this and was looking for a bag to try my rehabbing skills out on. Do you think she's fixable? I've got my supplies on order but don't want to waste my time if it's hopeless. TIA!

Yes, it's fixable. I would recommend ordering a matching dye (I like Fiebings) so that you can get at those penmarks without worrying about the original dye coming off, because it will come off. Once I removed the penmarks, I would scrub the whole bag with stripper, dye it, and seal it. I've done this a lot and it's actually really fun and the results are incredible!

Thanks. I've never used Meltonian. Does it cover completely? Does it dry so it won't get on the tan parts?

I've tried Meltonian #6 light brown on vintage AWL trim and it did nothing at all. I've also tried it on glove tanned leather and still nothing. Maybe it works better with their darker shades but definitely not the #6 (which in the jar is a perfect match for old Dooney trim.)

Hi again to Coach experts, I found a vtg bag in light color that's quite dirty. Since its not considered very cheap, I would like to hear your opinion on the stain.

Rescue-able? [emoji16]

I don't know about this particular style, but the Tribecas are known to be faked so I'd have it authenticated.

I suspect you'll have trouble with that piping too, I'm not sure I'd pay that much for it.

That's interesting. I just ordered a jar of Meltonian #6 to try it out on the Essex briefcase I'm rehabbing!

I did the full spa treatment: dunk, scrub, rinse, stuff, dry, 3 conditionings, Meltonian #6 mixed with conditioner on the worn spots, and Blackrock finish. The difference is most noticeable on the two front bottom corners.

Before (seller's pics) and after (my pics; different lighting may account for color differences, although the treatment seems to have made the color darker and richer than before...I can't decide if it's Mahogany or British Tan...opinions welcome!)

I've never had good luck dyeing. I can never get the dye to go on evenly. Once I used Fiebings suede dye and as soon as I brushed the suede several days later, the bag looked like it had never been dyed. Then I did another coat and waited even longer and still the dye disappeared.

I would agree, that bag would look pretty good with just a dunk and probably a lot of conditioning. It's hard to judge how noticeable the ink is. I have had some success with some alcohol and immediate dunking, but it doesn't always work and I kinda doubt it would work with this one. If I was in the market for a bag like that, (I'm on a ban!) I would think at that price it would be worth the risk, but it's just me.

I've done some radical recoloring stuff on some bags, but I'm not sure that one would need it, or if it would look any better than cleaning/conditioning.

Thanks so much for input! Will pass

Hi. I have received this bag for over a week and despite many times of cleaning with leather cleaner, I can't remove dirt/stain on corners n few other small area. Is this bag a good candidate for me to try my first Dunking project? Looking forward to hear any input or advise. TIA!

The color might be worn off the corners. Even dunking might not restore the color but it might plump up the leather. Conditioning might help.
