I just sprayed my Ace with some MK Rain and Stain repellent. Well, one spot was pretty wet so I thought I'd wipe it with a towel and this happened:

It looks like a faint white smear across the bag. It's not blatantly obvious, but of course I notice it. Should I try putting leather conditioner on it? I don't want to make it worse since it's colored leather. I'm currently out of leather conditioner, so I'm open to suggestion. I feel like such an amateur:(

What a shame! I'd try conditioner.

Silly question from a newbie- when you soak the bags do you give them a scrub down at all? If so, what are you using and how gentle should I be?
I scrub gently with a soft brush. You need to be gentle enough that you don't scratch the leather. I scrub more vigorously on the suede inside. If there are stains, I'll work on those more.

Anyone know if there is anything I can do about the cracks next to the piping? I feel like if it's not taken care of now, it could become a problem as the leather gets older and drier. (I'm giving the bag away and they probably won't condition it very often) At this point, the bag only has a couple of thin coats of Leather CPR. Thanks in advance!

I would just slide a little leather glue into each with a toothpick and press them closed.

Thanks Katherine2020 and Catbird9. Any recommendations for leather glue brand? And does it have to go on before I put on Obenauf's or Blackrocks?

I've been using Loctite Super Glue gel (easier to control flow) or Gorilla Glue (thin, comes out fast, have to be careful). Both are Cyanoacrylate and come in little tubes with small applicator tips.

It should go on before any finishes like Obenaufs or Blackrock.

Here's an interesting article on choosing leather glue:

Sorry this is off topic but I have a bag (not coach) that has the exact same scaly texture as your photo. I was wondering if you know the history of the bag, whether it's supposed to be like that or something happened to make it that way?

Hi there! Apologies if a similar question has been asked earlier in one of the rehab threads, I'm still making my way through them!

Do you see a reason to give this bag a bath? It looks as though it's not been used much. No odors or stains apparent.

Because it's a lighter color and I'm a huge klutz, I'd like to put something on it to protect it. I'm most concerned about water and oil/grease from my hands as I handle it.

I have BlackRocks and Obenauf's on the way for another project - would either of those work for this bag? I thought I read that one - possibly both? - of those could darken the leather a bit. For me, that's an okay price to pay if that means I can worry less about the bag.

Thanks in advance! Now off to bake...
