Hi ladies!

A few quick questions.

The city bag I'm working on for my mom is almost done. I left the Blackrock's to absorb for about a day and am currently buffing with a soft cloth. It's pretty tacky, unlike the previous bag I applied it to. It's leaving a little fuzzy residue from the cloth on the sticky areas that only disappear after I buff a little harder and longer, but some not at all. Is this normal? Also, when I buffed with the soft cloth on the last one, there was little or no color transfer, but on this city bag there is (relatively) a lot. Have I done something wrong?

The other bag I'm working on is this scary looking Willis. It looked awful before, and while the black blotches disappeared after dunking, it has some discoloration issues. Any recommendations what I should do?

Thank you!
It sounds like you used too much Blackrocks. It should eventually soak in. With Blackrocks, I don't let it sit. I put it on, then wipe it off almost immediately with a paper towel. The next day, I'll buff with a soft brush.
Oh no, it got worse as it dried. The quality of the leather is wonderful though
Oh, so sad! You'll need to experiment to see what works on those spots. The dark spots might be grease. I wouldn't even try to condition much until you figure out how to deal with those spots. You will probably have to dunk again eventually.

I dunked my bucket bag. It was in good shape before but seems suppler since its bath. I'm hoping the authentication thread will tell me how old it is and maybe the name of the style. The number is 0324-108 and it is made in the US.

Hi, all! My first post in the forum but have been lurking for a while :) I have a couple of questions.

1. Has anyone seen this happen to an older hangtag? It's like it split apart. Would it be ok to glue it back together or is there something special I should do?

2. I thrifted this older NYC 0318 bag because I loved the style. I was going to give it a bath but I'm a little worried because the leather feels very different than all of the other Coach bags I've come across. The outside almost feels "waxy" and stiffer. And the reverse side is smoother and not rough like most. Anyone have thoughts about whether this one actually is different or should be treated differently?

Thanks!
That happens all the time to hangtags. I just glue them back together. I've washed a compact pouch like yours. On different bags, the leather is slightly different. I think some of it might have been on purpose, using softer or stiffer leathers depending on the style. I've have had several with very smooth suede backing.

Thanks for the info, whatev!! The small pouch is my next project :)

Has anyone attempted dunking one of these Dooney bags? Thrifted one today that is über dirty... I checked the Dooney board but not much info on rehabbing over there. I wondering about color bleeding from the leather onto the fabric.

I wouldn't dunk it. Not only could that leather bleed onto the fabric but there might be glue that would melt and stain the fabric.

You're welcome! Post your results here!

Wow, when I see something that messed up, I always wonder which stain was the one that made the owner think "maybe I shouldn't carry this anymore?" It is so far beyond what I would carry in public that I can't understand how it could get that way, unless the owner gave it to her kids to play with after it got a little dirty.

That's one I'd be putting in the washer!

That's what we were laughing about - where did the owner draw the line? LOL. Getting ready to work on the wristlet and thought you would appreciate this:

Care card still in the pocket!

Does anyone know how I can rescue this one? It's not really dirty just dingy. Would it benefit from a water bath or should I use soap too?
I don't mind the way it looks now but if there's a way to make it look better I'm willing to try it.
Thanks for any help!

I'd do the normal bath with Dawn (or other dish soap). Be gentle and don't scrub. Sometimes these light colors look dingy not because of dirt, but because the color has worn away. I'd only use conditioners that don't darken.

So true. I have been amazed how much more color something like Blackroots enriched the color, especially reds and greens. Even a purse I thought was in very good condition came "alive" in color with it.
