Hi y'all! I'm the happy new owner of a Sonoma small flap bag. I believe the color is parchment. It is in extremely good shape except for needing conditioning, but has a few faint reddish discolorations and a pin point ink spot under the flap. I did not bathe because I don't want the black lining to run. I tried rubbing alcohol and Magic Eraser on the spots, but I can still see them faintly.
I took note of what Whateve told me on the vintage club thread and scoured this thread to see that I need to mix 1 drop of paint to 1 tsp of conditioner (I have Leather Therapy) and apply it only to the discolored spots (then buff, etc). This is the closest color match craft store paint I could find.
Should something go wrong with my plan, would it hurt the bag to put this mixture on the entire bag?
Also, is it possible to give the whole bag a light pearly sheen with a pearly acrylic paint from the craft store using the above mentioned paint to conditioner ratio?

Hi I was directed here by whateve. I purchased a purse #128668 and it could use some rehabbing. There are marke/stains on interior lining, white spots on leather and some spots where colour has been rubbed off. Please see attached pictures.
I would pull the lining out and clean out the lint. If it doesn't pull out then use a vacuum cleaner. Then tackle the marker ink stains with alcohol. Others have had good results from using Soilove on linings which may also remove ink. I can't get it here so I just wash mine with dish detergent and scrub stains with a nail brush. I would dunk this bag in warm water with dish liquid and try to remove the white marks by rubbing with a terry toweling cloth. Stuff it and re-shape it and let it dry then condition with CPR or Leather Therapy. If the white marks haven't come off, try removing them with a tiny amount of acetone on a Q-tip. If that doesn't work then you'll need to cover them with a mixture of black acrylic paint mixed with conditioner. You can also use this to cover the areas where the colour has worn off. Dab it on with your finger or a Q-tip.

I'm not familiar with this style so whateve may be able to recommend the best way to treat the brass turn lock. If it was a vintage bag I'd be using steel wool but that may not be suitable for this one.

Apply another coat of conditioner, leave for 24 hours and buff then apply a coat of Black Rock.

I have dunked a number of Sonoma bags, full grain and nubuc and the lining has never bled. You are unlikely to be able to totally remove the marks from under the flap.

I would definitely not use the paint/conditioner mix to cover the entire bag, nor the pearly acrylic paint. Leather needs to breathe. It would most likely make it feel dry.

Just dab it on the areas you want to cover with your finger and let it dry. Then condition the entire bag with LT, leave for 24 hours and buff. A final coat of Black Rock may give it the sheen you're looking for.

It's a lovely bag. It looks to be in great condition already.

Thank you! Incidentally, your post #8401 is the one I have bookmarked to follow tomorrow. :reading:

Thanks two time for taking the time to offer advice. Would the alcohol remove the colour of lining? What is a good dish detergent to use? I don't think they sell that here in Canada. What kind of conditioner do you recommend? I only have coach moisturizer so I am not familiar with other brands available.

I don't think the alcohol will not remove the color of the lining. I know it doesn't on Legacy stripe. I've never had a bag with this lining, but I had a signature khaki colored lining with huge ink stains, and the stained parts ended up a different color than the rest, but I think that was more from the ink than from the alcohol. Yours is just one line so I don't think it should be noticeable. Don't use alcohol on the leather. I've used acetone too when the alcohol didn't work. There is also a product called Amodex that works on ink, but it usually comes off pretty easily on nylon lining with alcohol.

Some people use Dawn dish detergent; I just use whatever liquid dish soap I get at a cheap price. Just don't use something that contains bleach.

We don't recommend Coach conditioner because it contains silicone, and it won't give you a dramatic improvement. I've done a Legacy bag with Leather Honey and I really liked the way it worked on this kind of leather. It'll darken it, which is what you want. I think you can order it directly from the manufacturer. I've ordered it several times from Amazon and every time it leaked. If you don't mind buying more than one conditioner, Blackrocks will help keep it looking new longer.

That white mark on the leather might wash right off.

Don't try to polish the brass with an abrasive. It will remove some of the coating and make it look worse. You might be able to wipe it with vinegar to brighten it.

Thanks whateve should I try the alcohol on the spot let it dry then wash the lining with water and dishsoap?

Blackrocks is it called blackrocks leather 'n' rich in a white jar with orangish label? Can it be used on a purse that has Coach conditioner on it ( madison east west black tote)?

Never thought to use vinegar on the hardware. I will try it and post pictures when I'm done thanks again.

It's actually Black Rock Leather 'n' Rich.

If you're happy with the feel and look of the purse that has been conditioned with the Coach product, by all means apply Black Rock, otherwise apply Leather CPR or leather Therapy, leave in a day, buff then apply BR.

The other purse I bought brand new from the store so I'll just use black rocks.

The purse I am rehabbing should I use something else before black Rock like the leather honey that whateve mentioned?

Yes. I haven't used Leather Honey but whateve likes it, also Leather CPR. I use Leather Therapy.

Whatever you use, apply sparingly and buff between coats. Same with Black Rock. You don't want to over-condition or it will feel tacky, then you've got to leave it for a few days to soak in before you can use it.

Just a quick question for the veterans on this forum. Is there a designated thread to have a Fossil purse authenticated? I have done a search, but I only found comments on multiple treads. (Sorry if I missed it)

I have no clue about this brand, it is a nice leather purse part of a lot I won that included a Coach of course ;)
