I think it is camel. It doesn't look like it needs dye. I think conditioning, or using my paint mixed with conditioner trick, will be enough.
Thanks much whateve!!

Camel it will be. And i misspoke --will just be using a bit of color on the corners, hopefully.

And, really, thank you! Without you and the others here who generously share their knowledge many a once beautiful bag would likely have gone into the trash!!

Curious what the difference is between barge cement and the others, like Feibings and Tandy. I went to the shoe repair shop to look for Tandy or Feibings, which they did not have. They did have barge cement, and the shoe guy said it would work to repair my piping, so I bought some to try. Thoughts?

Barge cement is highly toxic and flammable and can only be removed with solvents. Eco Flo which is the one I use, is water based and doesn't emit poisonous vapours. I'm not sure which Barge product you got but they all seem to have the same contents.

Here's the contents of the All Purpose Cement

Handbags generally don't get knocked around as much as shoes so IMO are unlikely to require the same repair products.

I have some Barge glue and have used it to reglue some leather zipper pulls. I dont know about piping repairs but Barge is sticky so I apply it with popsicle sticks as it will mess up your nail polish.

Hmm. I got the stuff in the blue tube that doesn't have toluene. I think I will order the Eco Flow and Fiebings just to be safe. The bag is drying now. My plan is to condition it and then repair the piping, as it seems like it would be too stiff to fix now.

If it is sticky, you can't use it to repair piping. It is only good as a glue. Conditioning first is a good plan. When I had a dent, I mixed the Fiebings with a little bit of paint rather than just painting it afterward. I was really happy at how well it worked. You can't even see the spot now. I'd like to hear how Eco Flow and Fiebings compare.

You're very welcome! I've learned as much, if not more, from this thread as I've contributed.

Those two have been ordered, as well as one by Aleen's that got good reviews on Amazon. Who knew glue could make me so excited. :D

Hi everyone!
Just bought my first coach bag.
I put some Coach conditioner on another leather bag, as practice, and have just been learning that the silicones aren't good for leather. Is there some way I can remove this? Would going over with apple conditioner help? I guess I should have researched a little more before jumping in!

Congratulations on your first Coach purchase. Is it vintage bag?

I believe silicone is not good for the stitching in bags as it breaks it down. I also think it isn't absorbed by the leather so doesn't really 'condition' it.

I don't use Apple. I've read here that others use it for the newer style bags. Its a lightweight conditioner so not really suitable for dry leather.

Please post a pic of your bag or details of the style and age and someone will advise.

I wouldn't worry about removing the Coach conditioner. It will wear off. I think it only causes damage if it is used repeatedly. What Coach bag did you get?

Here's a recent rehab success story I thought I'd share. This is a Kristin Leather Satchel that I almost missed. I was at the GW and had already picked through everything. I was standing in a long line waiting to check out, eyes wandering... and there she was-- hanging on a back peg all squished and dirty. She was so flat and wrinkled and dirty I feel my before pics aren't as bad as she really was. And bonus-- found her hangtag stuffed in a pocket so just had to replace the ball chain. First I used a cuticle brush with straight Dawn on the muddy spots, then directly into a warm bath. Once she was stuffed and dried I attacked the coffee stains (!) with a Tide bleach pen, then slowly worked her all over with a rag and Leather Honey cleaner (properly diluted) to get the residual grunge out of the wrinkles and creases. Really had to go over the handles twice with the LH cleaner. Then 2 coats of Leather CPR followed by a final coating of Bick 4 conditioner... and voila! There are still some minor little scuffs and a little wear on the bottom corners but I really didn't think she would clean up so good :D

wow, amazing transformation! I wonder what kind of person allows a bag to get into that horrible condition.
