Just purchased a periwinkle Madison Hailey for $37.66 on eBay. The auction listed that the corners were worn and had detailed pics but I figured for that price I could give it a whirl to fix it.
I used Martha Stewart acrylic paint and blended the cord of hydrangea purple and jet stream to get the periwinkle color.
I am really happy with the results .

First pics are from auction showing the wear.

I hope I remember this combination if mine ever needs repair. Wow, you got a great deal! I won't say what I paid for mine... Coach called this color cornflower. I think it is gorgeous.

A long time ago I bought a lime Hailey on ebay but returned it because it was in horrible shape. Now I'm wondering if it was fixable.

Great job. It's like new again.

It seems like older Coach bags have an issue with the edging on leather loops peeling off, and then the leather starts to split into multiple layers. I think I've gotten pretty decent with my paintbrush, my leather glue, and my AR 6464/T paint. Here's one side of a loop on the Chelsea Abbey wristlet I got today:

And here is a picture of each side after I am done. Paint's about 75% dry at this point.

I did wonder the real color name....the auction just listed it as lavender which I knew was wrong.
I am really happy with the results and can't wait to use it :smile1:

Great job.

I use Edge Kote but I only have it in black. I just used acrylic paint on the edge of the strap of a Madison and it did a decent job.

It looks great. What is AR 6464/T paint?

Thanks. I haven't noticed Edge Kote peeling, but I have trouble getting it to be completely smooth, even when I clean off all the old Edge Kote.

Really? The first time I used Egde Kote and got caught out in the rain a few days later, it completely came off as if it were never there.

I have some trouble getting it smooth, especially if the old layer below isn't completely smooth. But I seem to be getting better with practice. What do you use to put it on?

A paintbrush.

Actually those spots look very minor to me. How old is your bag? Some spots won't come out no matter how much we try. I think it is a gorgeous bag. In my opinion, dyeing it would be a bad idea.

You could try to find acrylic craft paint to match. Then mix it with conditioner and blend it into the problem areas. Don't use too much paint or it will look like it's been painted. Don't expect complete coverage but it might lessen their appearance.

You should use Blackrocks or Obenaufs with Blackrocks next. They will make the bag glow and the color look more even.
Thank you so much -- Black Rock arrived. It really did even out the color and mostly obliterated the white spot on the bottom. I will try to post an "after" photo but don't see a spot for that here!! Grateful in Beantown, M

Thank you again. I wasn't able to post photos directly, maybe because I am new here. I hope this is ok, it's a link showing photos: http://meggerber.blogspot.com

Appreciate any advice. Overall it's a gorgeous bag and the advice here made it fabulous. Thanks, M
Added an after Black Rock bottom photo to blog above so as not to clutter forum with a post just for one photo….thanks again

This may be a dumb question but I searched and couldn't find a clear answer on past threads. Some vintage bags are so broken in and soft that they are floppy, others are more rigid and hold a shape better. In the case of both a bucket bag/duffle and also a Court bag, I think it would be nice for the bag to hold its shape a bit better without slouching/flopping flat. Besides perhaps washing and reshaping is there anyway to make leather a bit, stiffer?

Thanks!! M
