Hello, I am new to this site, first time posting in this thread although I have been reading, and wow! you ladies know your stuff and your advice is so detailed and helpful. I thought my first post would be about my first "real" almost vintage bag called a Penelope Satchel (I just found out the name :smile1:), but I think that once I get the cleaning and conditioner supplies I can try to improve it, just following your advice to others it's not that bad after all.

So now here I am because I think I messed up one of my favorite bags, it's not vintage but I hope you still can give me suggestions. It's a nylon bag, the Poppy Ski Bunny in black and white, I had it for sometime and have cleaned spots with just a bit of soap and water, but after wearing a black suede jacket and noticing some overall darkening of the white areas, I decided to put it in the wash machine with cold water and a mild detergent, when it came out most of the white was much better, but there is now one spot under one of the straps rings that looks like it "bled" from inside, also the trim of the pockets looks like "see through black". Goodness I don't know how to explain it, but I have two pictures to show you. I went over with the soap and water, but it didn't work.

Any advice on how to clean those areas will be very much appreciated!!!

You could try applying some alcohol with a Q tip. That might remove the dye.

If that doesn't work you could use bleach. I have done this on white nylon on a Michael Kors bag with success, also applied with a Q tip.

Rinse afterwards.

It's because the Coach conditioner contains silicone which can hurt leather if you use it for too long. There are tons of conditioners out on the market and its really a matter of preference. I like using Leather CPR (from Marshalls in their cleaning section) and Bick 4 (from a leather repair store) on bags since they're thicker and I have a knack for finding bags that are in desperate need of conditioning. Other people like using Lexol and Apple which tend to be a little bit thinner.
Apparently silicone breaks down the stitching. I don't think it harms the leather.

Not Coach and not even a bag but almost vintage! We just spent a few days at the beach and before we went I dug out dh's old leather NAOT sandals. After stitching a strap back in place with a really cool sewing awl, removing some paint with acetone, polishing the buckles with steel wool and re-gluing part if the lining, I applied Obenauf's inside and out. That stuff is awesome! Here they are before.

And after.

Great job!

beautiful bag! I always loved this style! I'm very surprised that nylon would bleed. I don't know what you should do. I was thinking of some kind of paint but I don't know what would retain the surface texture of the fabric. Maybe water color?

Thanks! I really like this bag, it's pretty big yet light and you can roll it and put it anywhere, LOL
I didn't think the nylon would bleed either, after all when I cleaned spots there was no color coming off. Live and learn!

Thank you very much, I will try your advice but I think only on the part of the trim on top. I don't want to risk going around the pockets and leave a big bleach spot, and knowing me it's a very big possibility
I might consider the other advice about some type of paint for the edges, it might work.
You ladies are full of ideas, just what I needed.

Wow, looks wonderful! My DH would love it if I did this for him. He hates getting new things. He loves his old comfortable things. I've glued soles for him but nothing major like this.

I have three quilted nylon Coach bags. (whoa, I didn't realize I had that many!) I love the squishiness!

I wonder it there might be some interlining material that did the bleeding.

WishingOnaCoach - you might try a bleach pen also. I think they are like a bleach alternative substance thingy or maybe a bleach that isn't as strong because I have used them on colored clothing without messing with the color on the fabric.

I do like the idea of the straight bleach on the cue tip though. I may have to try that one!

Hello long lost rehab friends!! I am back from my tpf hiatus! I have been lurking and peeking in every once in a while, but now that marching band season and the holidays are over, I should be able to hang out and start rehabbing again. I have a pile growing in the basement and really need to get back in the swing of things! Hope you all have been doing great and had a wonderful holiday season! Two.time, those sandals are amazing! Remind me not to show that to my husband - he will think that he never has to get rid of another pair of shoes ever again, lol!

Oh my, I have been away far too long, as evidenced by my overuse of the exclamation point.

Great job!

Oh my goodness, I would have thrown them out. You are a miracle worker, LOL

Hey Becca! Welcome back. It's been ages. Did you ever finish your dyed UA Stew? Hmm .... I seem to recall you were going to tell us something about a film....

Hello dear! Well, rehabbing came to a screeching halt because there was so much gong on with the band - I am the treasurer and they were keeping me hopping! Things are quiet for now, but we have the jazz festival coming up so I'll be a little busy then. My UA stew is patiently waiting for her transformation to be finished, but I got her a twin so she's not too lonely. :smile1: The video finally came out at the beginning of November, 4 days of filming for 1 minute and 30 seconds! http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/explore/cookies

Hope the fires didn't get too close to you!
