Awesome! Thanks, Two.Time! So I guess just bath, reshape and condition? No need for blackrocks or obenaufs? From the pictures it looks like it might need some reshaping, but I'm hoping this one will be a quick and easy rehab. Its the one I posted over on the authentication page earlier today. In case you missed it I don't know how I managed to remember it in the last 30 seconds of the auction. I had the page up in my browser and just happened to switch over to it, bid twice and won in the last 10 seconds.
I always put Blackrocks on my Sheridans. I like the shine it gives them. Because of all the bumps, I don't like to use a thick conditioner that might leave behind some residue. That's a gorgeous bag! I haven't been very successful cleaning off the darkening on the brown parts. I don't know that dunking will do much for that bag. It already looks pretty good.

Trim off the fringes. If the leather can stretch to cover the spot, then you can do that and just sew it back into place, using the original holes to poke your needle through. I know Two.time.bags did something similar. I think she might have removed some stitches in order to have a larger area to stretch over. If it is impossible to stretch, you can find a small piece of leather to attach.

ETA: what does it say on the white tag?
Thank you for your help. :smile1:
I'm not sure what the top part says, something and then Lansing a city here in Michigan. The lady that I bought it from says that her mother had it for 30 plus years and was the original owner so I am guessing maybe a tag from the store it was bought from?

Good to know! I have a slightly thinner conditioner (Bick 4) that I can use on it. And I picked up a horsehair shoe shine brush a couple weeks ago too. The brass also looks like its in good shape too. Fingers crossed its still in pretty good shape when it arrives. Looks like it'll be awhile though since the estimated delivery is February 3rd.

That's ridiculous! I can't imagine why a seller would need 11 days to mail it. I just noticed that it doesn't have the original brown hangtag. If the seller doesn't squish it when packing it up, you might be able to reshape it just by stuffing it with towels and putting it in the bathroom while you take a shower. I don't think I've ever dunked a Sheridan.

Hi, forgive me I am new and really enjoying the rescue club. I am with my people, I think. Please don't laugh: wondering why no one seems to use Coach conditioner? I have a beautiful duffel/feed bag I bought for $32. Just gave her a bath yesterday. All I have at home is the coach stuff. I can order Apple but don't want her to wait too long for her beauty regimen….THANKS

It's because the Coach conditioner contains silicone which can hurt leather if you use it for too long. There are tons of conditioners out on the market and its really a matter of preference. I like using Leather CPR (from Marshalls in their cleaning section) and Bick 4 (from a leather repair store) on bags since they're thicker and I have a knack for finding bags that are in desperate need of conditioning. Other people like using Lexol and Apple which tend to be a little bit thinner.

I totally agree, and it's probably part of the reason why I won the auction! I'm hoping it's a situation where the seller will underpromise and over deliver. (But then again, it looks like that may have been their only auction at the moment!) Either way, I'm not in that big of a rush to receive it.
I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't the original hangtag and they got one from Coach. The black one they sent me last fall would match it pretty well since it's pebbled leather.

Read with interest…I have faded spots on a red leather beauty after washing and conditioning. I am new here and am assuming from reading posts that buying dye or a leather touchup kit is a BAD idea? Thanks, learning so much from this forum.

Wow thanks, I am going to Marshall's right now to look for CPR. Sad that Coach sells a product like that.
Marshalls doesn't always have it. Tuesday Morning and TJ Maxx have it sometimes.

It depends. We don't recommend shoe polish, but there are other products that might work for you. I've had bad luck with dye myself; it always went on streaky. Some people use Leather Refinisher by Wood n Stuff but it is acrylic based so may change the texture of the leather if you put it on too thick. If you use the right conditioners, the faded spots might blend in more. If you didn't use Blackrocks, you really need to.

We can help you more if you post pictures.

Thanks so much, the bag (she) is drying right now so I won't send photos yet. Really glad I "took the plunge" and put the bag in the sink. Family was horrified.
