Sharing the story and progress of my "bin bag." I found this Coach Saddle 23 #31898 (maybe) under a pile of sweaters at a Goodwill bin store. $1.99 per pound, so I guess I paid about $2 for this! It was in really rough shape.

I've been working some rehab on it. Issues: inner flap (yellow-y leather) was so discolored, scratched, dye worn off in places, and marked up with pen ink. Interior: filthy, scratched. Exterior: faded patches. Strap: prior owner cut off one end to the tune of about 7 inches. Here's what I've done so far: leather cpr on exterior. Some black leather dye applied mixed with leather CPR to the faded areas. Cleaned interior with saddle soap (didn't help much). I used edgekote to seal the cut end of the strap. I finally decided to dye the inner flap black (formerly yellow/gold). Looks good, I think.

I figured out how the prior owner must have worn the strap to explain the cutting. I think she wanted a shorter shoulder look, and when she used the grommet that would work, there must have been a long (7 inches) of the strap hanging down the side. Obviously, she didn't like that! Snip! When you wear it "her way" now, you can't see the cut and there is no long dangling end on the side of the bag. Finished with blackrock leather 'n rich. Here are some photos.

This bag was not able to be authenticated, so it's not for selling. It's for me. I might remove the strap and put a different one there.

Sharing another rehab. It's not a Coach bag, however, it is also from the bin store. I think this bag is amazing! I'm calling it The Witches hat bag. 100% leather made in Italy from a defunct upscale department store called Bonwit Teller. Part of it is quilted leather, part of it is smooth leather. If anybody here knows which forum I can go to on the purse Forum to find out more about this vintage bag, please direct me. Regarding the rehab, leather CPR and some touch up with black leather dye. I've never seen anything like this bag!

Very cool bag! Yes, BT was certainly an upscale department store. I visited the NY location years ago (ahhhh, decades ago :oh:). My younger self had no money to spend there, but browsing was amazing! Enjoy your "new" bag!

Thanks! I've done some research, and not finding out much about the bag. Only thing I learned is that this style was called "clamshell." Makes sense! :)

Bonwit's was a very high end dept store back in the day. The quality of the bag has to be amazing. They carried the Hermes Kelly bag at their store in Philly when I was growing up.

Thanks! I guess it depends how extensive the rips are and maybe if I'm using leather glue versus leather cement. I had a bad experience with glue and an ergo flap. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club.833400/post-35678630. I decided that I shouldn't glue first! The glue disintegrated in the dunk and made a huge mess.
I sealed some up with super glue. It works fine for small holes. I would imagine for larger holes it might be problematic because it stays stiff.

I feel like I'm "hogging" the rehab thread. Please, someone else share some pictures and rehab stories! x o
Don't feel like you're the only one posting.....just maybe the only one "working".
Besides that, you seem to be the adventurous one, willing to take on projects some of us (I for one!) would not attempt.
Please keep the show and tell coming to us!

Hello,

I have a small black leather Soho shoulder bag that is missing its strap. I misplaced it. Does anyone know of a collector that sells Coach parts? The model number is 9247 and it was made in 2005. Thank you.

I don't know of anyone who specializes in parts like that kind of strap. Sometimes they do get listed. You'll have to browse listings and hope you'll get lucky. It shouldn't be that difficult to find a black one that will fit. There are companies that make straps but I don't know if they make the kind that buckle on rather than clip on.
