Sharing the story and progress of my "bin bag." I found this Coach Saddle 23 #31898 (maybe) under a pile of sweaters at a Goodwill bin store. $1.99 per pound, so I guess I paid about $2 for this!
It was in really rough shape.
I've been working some rehab on it. Issues: inner flap (yellow-y leather) was so discolored, scratched, dye worn off in places, and marked up with pen ink. Interior: filthy, scratched. Exterior: faded patches. Strap: prior owner cut off one end to the tune of about 7 inches. Here's what I've done so far: leather cpr on exterior. Some black leather dye applied mixed with leather CPR to the faded areas. Cleaned interior with saddle soap (didn't help much). I used edgekote to seal the cut end of the strap. I finally decided to dye the inner flap black (formerly yellow/gold). Looks good, I think.
I figured out how the prior owner must have worn the strap to explain the cutting. I think she wanted a shorter shoulder look, and when she used the grommet that would work, there must have been a long (7 inches) of the strap hanging down the side. Obviously, she didn't like that! Snip! When you wear it "her way" now, you can't see the cut and there is no long dangling end on the side of the bag. Finished with blackrock leather 'n rich. Here are some photos.
This bag was not able to be authenticated, so it's not for selling. It's for me. I might remove the strap and put a different one there.
