How long should you leave a bag in the bath? Does it depend on how dirty it is or is it the same for every bag?

It can vary. 15-20 minutes is usually plenty. Sometimes you'll use a shorter time if the bag seems more delicate. I've forgotten and left bags to soak for over an hour without causing any problems. How long should you leave a bag in the bath? Does it depend on how dirty it is or is it the same for every bag?
Hello @Crystalcoach !About to start on these 2 beauties. The saddle pouch has a lot of fading on the front flap and particularly on the strap. Would you all recommend recoloring first or dunking first? Also, I think it might be a good idea to condition the saddle before dunking since it's dry and old --NYC bag. Should I use CPR for preconditioning or Obenaufs/Blackrocks?
Thanks in advance for all y'all's expertise!

Thank you. I forgot a bag in the bath (aka our utility sink in the garage ) overnight and I think it ended up making things worse. I would just stuff with towels and let dry. Do a CPR condition every few hours while its still wet...you migth be surprised at how well it bounces back.Thank you. I’m The worse about taking before during and after photos so this is the poor Wendy bag before I touched it. After many coats of CPR got the leather back to feeling normal but the color did not fare so well. I don’t want to try to dye because I am far too messy and would definitely ruin something or probably many things by getting dye everywhere. So I have blended a couple colors of recoloring balm and am hoping for the best.I would just stuff with towels and let dry. I just recently did this very repair. I carefully cut the stitches on both sides of the split. About 6 or 7 on each side. The piping leather is very flexible so I gently tugged on it so that the cut ends overlapped slightly. I then reattached the piping using the original holes and waxed nylon thread. It did cause the strap to curve ever so slightly so I reconditioned with CPR and have it hanging with a weight on the end to straighten it. I’ll try to remember to post a pic as soon as the CPR has absorbed.Hi everyone,
What is the best fix/treatment (if any) for the cracks/splits in the binding of this strap? All comments welcome.

In my experience the staining on the leather from the zipper doesn't clean off. You might try sanding it. Make sure there aren't any holes in the handles where water can get inside before you dunk. If water gets inside, the handles will soften.Just picked up this lovely lady today and am hoping for some tips on how to remove the water stains and lighten up the handles. she's very dry after having been stored for an era (look at the patina on the leather from the zipper!),l. I'm a little worried she's not going to survive a bath. I also have to figure out a way to fold & glue that little leather tab on the handle back under and create a better zipper pull....
I've successfully dunked and reconditioned a Willis and a station bag with CPR, Blackrocks, & renapur, but those bags were from the 90s and have a very different feel to the leather.
thoughts? suggestions?

thanks @whateve ! The handles seem to be sewn up pretty tight thankfully. It looks like I might be able to brush off most of the interior zipper patina. yay! Any thoughts on the water (?) mark on the outside and the darkening on the handles? In my experience the staining on the leather from the zipper doesn't clean off. You might try sanding it.
