Hi everyone,
What is the best fix/treatment (if any) for the cracks/splits in the binding of this strap? All comments welcome.

I just recently did this very repair. I carefully cut the stitches on both sides of the split. About 6 or 7 on each side. The piping leather is very flexible so I gently tugged on it so that the cut ends overlapped slightly. I then reattached the piping using the original holes and waxed nylon thread. It did cause the strap to curve ever so slightly so I reconditioned with CPR and have it hanging with a weight on the end to straighten it. I’ll try to remember to post a pic as soon as the CPR has absorbed.
Thank you for this suggestion Birdie13.

This bag is supposed to be lavender (or lilac if that’s what coach called it). This is my fist time dealing a bag that is a unique color so I did not have expectations that I could return it to its original shade but maybe something close. I’m not ready to say I’m done with it yet but I need to step away and come back to it later. Anyway, here is how it’s looking so far. I welcome any and all critiques and / or advise.

ETA: The lighting isn’t great. It was late so I had no natural light to work with.

The product I used for recoloring is The Original Leather Re-Coloring Balm by Furniture Clinic that I purchased on Amazon. The colors I used are maroon and white and mixed them until I felt It was as close as I was going to get.

Wow, that looks great! Thanks for sharing your “special sauce”.

Thank you!

Btw, I think you are totally right about the color and the leather. While recoloring I found it did not take the color balm evenly so I had to go back over some spots like I was sponge painting. Not sure I would ever take on a bag like this again.
I would say you really nailed! I quoted this all together to make it easy to find if I (or anyone else) decide to take on something like this. I have an Ergo style in a lighter color, toffee, that I was considering touching up with color and if I keep it, I will look into this. Thanks for confirming the nature of the dye on the bag.
Side note, this is why I  this group. A lot of open sharing of what works, what doesn’t, pics, products, etc :flowers: thanks to all of you who share your info and time!

Sad yellow mini pack has another issue (not disclosed by seller). Drawstring. I'm still keeping it to work on this is a wonderful bag to practice with.

I have a strap, not quite as bad but with several cracks (also not disclosed) that I am trying a leather repair product on. The clasps have the anchor stamp (which you pointed out) so I really want to try to fix it. Not sure I have the patience to get it right but like you, I think it’s good practice. The bag itself is coming along nicely.

I'm not sure if I should cut off the broken pieces of leather and replace with a fresh piece of leather there, or work it with glue/cement. I'll try glue first, I think.

I tried glueing mine but had a hard time keeping it together until the glue dries. If you have a trick for that I would love to know! And if you were to cut off the pieces, would you glue new pieces on or attach them another way?

I use binder clips to hold things in place while it's drying. With a new piece of leather I would still glue and use binder clips.
