Hi Coach Addicts,
I found this Cashin Watermelon (?) Tote today, my questions are -
1. The inside of the kiss lock is plain, no stripes. Does that date this after or before the striped ones? Is this not as good as the ones with the stripes.
2. Any opinions on the name of this color? Not British Tan, not Putty - Just "Tan"? It is so dirty it is probably red underneath there.

It was made in the late 70s or early 80s. It was made after Bonnie Cashin left the company. The color might be tabac. Have you seen this style with stripes inside the pocket? I don't think I have. I think the earliest versions I've seen were pre-creed but probably made after Bonnie Cashin left.

Uh oh - I found this today, I always assume old and faded Coach is authentic and the newer stuff is more likely to be faked.

This isn't the authentication thread but it looks good to me. It's a skinny case #7170, probably made in the mid to late 1990s or early 2000s.

Counterfeiters copy vintage styles all the time. They counterfeited them in the 90s too so some counterfeits are old and worn out.

Here's the Megan. The color (I think stone?) didn't turn out as even as I hoped. This bag was USED. I guess it turned out okay for a light colored bag though.

The Megan is how I decided I wanted to know more about vintage Coach bags! I saw a green Megan and fell in love. It had already been sold, unfortunately! Regardless, it tweaked a lasting and at times, obsessive, interest!!!

Here's all 3 of the stone bags nearly done. The NY Basic still needs the brass polished and the strap thingies covered in new leather. I'm going to try to tackle that today and tomorrow. As much as I love restoring leather I equally detest restoring brass when it's got that coating on it.

Interesting how they're all slightly different tones. I love love love the color of the Beckett Zip. It looks like mushroom color, but I suppose stone sounds better. I don't usually do hobo bags, but this one's a keeper. I love the way the strap attaches and that I can wear it crossbody.

It’s here! Here’s a quick pic.
Yes way :girlsigh: BT, it’s who I am. I can’t fight it! :roflmfao: Not with white stitching! The front is faded but it should condition up nicely. It has one of those big fat straps! It is really in very good condition. Well, for distressed lovin’ me, right??

So I decided to give this Carrier Brief bag a little attention so I could use it. Regarding condition, it has definite fading on the front, and the front of the bag was dry, more so the front of the bag with a bit of scuffing along the top of the flap, several small random pen marks. The plus side: no real stains, the inside was clean, like never used clean and the leather  is to die for! So smooshy I could fold this bag up, literally! But I won’t!
I gave it a wipe down with my go-to general cleaning sloution, a few squirts of Lexol cleaner in a quart of warm water followed by a light application of CPR with a little more on the piping. And then a little more on the flap Cadillac premium conditioner. Some faint water marks have surfaced at the top of the flap. I am not overly surprised, when you condition dry leather, it reveals its history! At some point it will get a full dunk cleaning and conditioning.
It is one gorgeous piece of leather :girlsigh: thanks for looking

And thank you whateve for pointing out in the other post that the thumbnail option is still there, where it says insert in the upper left corner of the photo being inserted. I missed that!

Major swoon here! Gorgeous bag! I can just imagine carrying that bag through an airport, people would stare wondering what fabulous adventure I am off to!

Hello everyone, today I have an original RFD mailbox bag that needs quite a bit of attention but I am too scared to dunk it because Debi Barros described how some really old NYC Coach bags disintegrated or cracked on her when she soaked them, and this an old, old pre-creed bag with a Coach metal tag. It is one of my special unicorns, which is misshapen and looks thirsty and dry. Any and all advice would be welcome. I have been advised to use mink oil as well as conditioner. Maybe if I condition it enough it would get to the point where it would be safe to dunk.....?
