I am not brave enough to tackle this one….
Wow, they aren't even talking about the horrible paint job. If it has been washed and conditioned twice and that paint didn't budge, I wouldn't want to tackle it.

I'm also working on a basic bag, NYC, so it's old. It was filthy when I started. It's looking pretty good for the most part now, but check the strap out. 3 coats of CPR in, and it's still so DRY! I'm thinking of removing the metal pieces and covering them with fresh leather, but I've never done that before. I'm scared! Lol.

What y'all think?

What do you suggest, @LunaSilver? :hugs:

Thanks. I am not expert. If it was my bag , I would remove the old leather, and cut same color very thin leather strips, same width or 0.5 mm wider than the metal cap(0.25 mm at each side), long enough to cover up the whole circle ( make sure the ends meet with no gap), then glue the leather onto the metal cap.
My favourite glue is E 6000 fabric fuse, it seems week at beginning, requires clamp & un disturbed for 72 hrs. Feibing’s leather cement will work too, just follow the label instructions. Good luck with the repair.

Thank you! My worry is getting the clamp back on without damaging the strap or the fix. I think I may need to invest in some rubber tipped pliers or something.

Anyway, that's the same glue I use for other leather projects. It is great stuff!

So, I have leather, but I don't think I've got anything that will match tabac. I may try to order some, or I'll get creative with some of the leather I have already. I'll post before (I actually remembered to take one of this bag) and after pics when I'm finished with it. Wish me luck. I'll need it!

My obsession with Italian Coaches continues…

1994 Madison Bristol in Maple. I’ve never had an orange bag before, not being one for warmer tones but this bag is just the right shade of orange for me. It arrived smushed and with pretty bad indentations from the handles due to poor storage. Marks are still there but much less visible.

I wiped down with a damp cloth, then a couple coats of cpr with a few hours dry time between, then I tried blackrocks but I got a lot of dye transfer so I stopped that for fear of further damage. Last step was my Preservation Solutions Leather Rejuvenator, with 24 hr dry time and a final buffing.
This leather is delicate! No metal bag charms or key chains allowed. 7A2CC4DE-30D8-4A08-A1F9-3C8A98925E17.jpegB323D093-F993-41EF-914F-29E321475A4E.jpegA80DEE11-6367-412A-B15C-551F765D4777.jpeg

@Coachaddict4020 removed those clamps to shorten the strap in the past, maybe she will share her technique here? Sorry I was going to take the short cut, just cover up the clamps with new leather without removing them, but what I suggested is not the proper way, if the clamps are removed , the leather capping can completely cover the metal surface include the edges.

I covered the clamps with a fluffy microfibre cloth before squeezing them with pliers . You can easily squeeze them without damaging them, but of you open/close them too many times, it might weaken the clamps.

Hi Coach Addicts,
I found this Cashin Watermelon (?) Tote today, my questions are -
1. The inside of the kiss lock is plain, no stripes. Does that date this after or before the striped ones? Is this not as good as the ones with the stripes.
2. Any opinions on the name of this color? Not British Tan, not Putty - Just "Tan"? It is so dirty it is probably red underneath there.

They aren't basic bags, they are cosmetic bags, much smaller than basic bags and no place to attach straps. They are called chunky cases. Here is a catalog picture. These are often faked and I wouldn't trust Goodwill's authentication services.

Uh oh - I found this today, I always assume old and faded Coach is authentic and the newer stuff is more likely to be faked.

I'll let the experts answer your questions. Just tossing in my opinion on the color. I do think it's British Tan. Very cool bag!
