Has anyone dunked a Chelsea Hippie Flap 9958 (authenticated by @Hyacinth-thanks again)? It's a flat bag, so will "stuffing" it after a dunk distort the flap shape? The interior is suede but the flap is leather lined with no suede exposed. I'm concerned about how the large flap will be after a dunk. It's so buttery soft and very clean, so maybe I shouldn't even consider dunking it - just do a thorough cleaning??
Would anyone happen to have a 2000 Holiday catalog that it appeared in?
Thanks!

If it doesn't need cleaning or reshaping then just surface cleaning and conditioning may be the safest option. You could try searching the Wayback Machine in Fall 2000 to try and find a listing for the bag at: http://web.archive.org/web/*/coach.com

I don't know if this will help answer your question, but I once dunked a Large Hippie Flap 9134, see the before and after pics at the below; but it was a long time ago. I didn't have any trouble reshaping the bag. I know that I stuffed it during the early phase of drying but I didn't overstuff it and it stayed flat after drying.

This bag doesn't have leather-lined double-wall construction, but I have dunked several of the Italian Madison and Gramercy bags and they do have double-wall flap construction. I've never had any problems with the flaps after dunking, except that they took a long time to dry. In some cases I used a hair dryer set on "cool" to help speed the drying process.

I once rehabbed a Suede Fringe Dinky 86821 (see links below) and it had double-wall flap construction, but it was already wrinkled and misshapen when I got it. Dunking and reshaping actually helped to reduce the wrinkles, but I couldn't make them disappear completely.

@DL Harper I did a quick review of the Wayback Machine and I didn't see a Chelsea Flap 9958, but I found this 9458 bag from November 2000:

Wow katev - you do some incredible sleuthing and detective work! I've been searching (although I never did figure out how to use the Wayback Machine :confused1:) even going through the catalogs posted in the tPF Coach catalog thread. Bags, bags and more bags, but not this one - unless, of course, I just plain overlooked it.

Your bags in the links above look wonderful! Very nice transformations! Given that mine is in such great shape, I'm going to opt for a surface clean and condition as you recommended.

I appreciate your help - thank you!!!

I posted this on another thread and should have posted this here. This is my latest endeavor - aubergine 9965. Here's the link to the before pics for those that are interested..

Outdoor and indoor lighting for comparison.. The piping is just the tiniest shade darker for contrast.

Wow this looks amazing! Well done! Can I send you one of my bone bags to get dyed?

As it should be because it is beautiful. But that is way more rehab than I have the patience and knowledge to do.
Thank you! I severely lack in patience and I've laughed at your admission of lack of patience in your posts. I recall you mentioning that if you had just waited, some of your rehabs would have turned out better. I'm right there with you. I have rushed rehabs to detriment. I have rushed the dyeing process to detriment. Hell, I cook angel hair pasta as opposed to regular pasta because it's 'faster'.

I'm getting better at patience with rehabbing bags. A very slow better. I spent several days on this particular bag because I wanted it done right as opposed to 'faster'.

That looks fantastic! I would love to learn how you did it if you don’t mind sharing.

I don't mind at all. The interior was dyed using a product called Jacquard acid dye. It's a powder and I use that as a dip dye method. I originally tried using a liquid suede dye by Saphir (Angelus makes the same thing) but applying those products affects the exterior leather and it's never even. Dip dye method is the best way to go for interiors.. Dip dye method is very similar to "dunking". I have learned that doing the interior first is crucial.

I use Leather Touch Up Dye for the exterior. It's an aniline dye and the product is expensive but worth every cent due to the results. It does not peel, chip or flake. It is an outstanding dye!! This color was mixed by me. They will create custom colors for you but you have to mail in a "swatch". I don't have the patience to mail something and then wait so I bought large amounts of their primary colors to create my own palette.

Here's their link:

I use their aniline dye. Please feel free to ask me any questions.. It's a lot of information to take in all at once.
