I've gotten the sense that some here aren't really in favor of redying bags, but I washed this Stewardess and the staining was still really bad. There were also deep scratches and scuffs that clearly weren't going away when I started working on it, so I knew I was going to have to take drastic measures if I was going to get this bag in a condition where I'd actually want to carry it. Anyway, I ended up dying it then finished with acrylic resolene. I worry about it being colorfast, but it seems fine so far. It ended up being exactly the Stewardess I wanted and didn't even know it.

More details and pictures are here: http://imwithleathercoach.blogspot.com/2013/06/stewardess-to-dye-for.html

Wow, looks beautiful! that's a brave step I've not yet taken on any bags.

Do any of you guys know how to remove this stain from a pebbled leather bag? It looks lie make-up, but I'm not sure.View attachment 2238420

You could try rubbing it with a white-colored pencil eraser to see if that helps. You could also give it a bath and use a cloth to scrub it with ivory or dawn and water. Another option is to tie it up in a pillow case and cycle it through the washer on delicate cycle.

It may be color-transfer and in that case you probably won't be able to remove it. There is a product called Soilove that is good for removing stains from leather but I haven't tried it on that type of stain. Good luck!

Hope someone out there has some advice. I am working on a blue mini sig bag that has white leather on the bottom and handles. It was seriously filthy when I received it, both the jacquard and the leather I have soaked, scrubbed, tried the magic eraser and it is much cleaner and brighter. The only issue is there are scratches and areas where the white finish has worn off. Also, the edges on the handles need re-sealed, and it is navy blue. I have only been able to find black and brown sealer. Any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated!

I discussed the edge kote/color thing with an employee at Tandy Leather and this is what he recommended ( It's pricey, unfortunately but has endless lifetime use/possibilities) He said it can be mixed with a drop of any color dye/ acrylic and will turn the product into a very sturdy edge coating in your needed color: I haven't tried it yet but have no reason to not believe him. Here's a random link I've found just to show you what I am referring to. You can also just touch the white leather dye loss areas with a matching acrylic paint.

I live in an economically depressed area so dollar stores are HUGE here. I never thought to look for leather care products there but I've always just used Leather Honey so I bought from Amazon. Now that I'm getting into Coach Rescue I will have to check and see what they have.

Does anyone use Wright's Brass Polish? I just happened to have a bottle in my cleaning cupboard so I am using it now. I don't think I'll ever get a clean wipe on my rag on the brass loops where the strap hooks into! I know many of you use Brasso. I've easily put at least 2 hours into the brass cleaning. Is this crazy?

I use Wrights and I like it pretty well. I like it better than brasso. And yes Brass polishing is a Pain in the bleep. Do you also use Glad Press and Seal plastic wrap ? it makes the job easier for me, with less polish getting on the leather

So this week I gave my two rehabbed Court bags to my sweet nieces who were visiting from Virginia. The nearly-16-yo got the mahogany one, the 18-yo got the black one. They can't afford anything close to a new Coach bag, so I was pleased to give them mine. I love the Court bag style, but it's too small for my needs.

But I'll soon have another rehab project, just won this plum purple NYC made convertible clutch: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Purse...der-strap-boho-hipster-designer-/321146706839

I'm excited to get a bag to dunk and condition, and I've always admired this style. My first made in New York bag!

aaah so YOU got that one LOL was planning on it and got distracted. Very nice!!

I didn't know about the Press n Seal trick. LOL, that Press n Seal is cool stuff. I've found it to be useful for stitching accurately while machine quilting; many quilters use it.
I cleaned the brass first on the bag that I'm working on right now. It is very, very dirty. Thanks for the tip and all the tips that you post.:smile1:

Here is my latest rehab, a dark brown Large Hippie Flap 9134 that was made in the USA in 1999 and retailed for $198 (that's $277 in 2013 currency). I got it at Savers for $28 (it was marked $40 but I had a coupon.)

It was dirty and scuffed but in pretty good shape except for a nasty ink stain on the inside but happily it hadn't bled to the outside of the bag. It was also missing the hangtag. For some reason the strap appears short in the pics but it is quite long. It is 47" long and it is a true crossbody strap.

It looks fantastic! The color is so even! Can you fit much in this bag?

It looks great! Obviously the dunking was the right thing to do!

ETA: It looks brand new! I don't think I have ever seen one where the part above the turnlock wasn't darkened.

Thank you for the tips! It really was in great condition when I got it. It just had that weird musty thrift store smell. The bath took care of two problems. Whenever I get a bag that's in great shape like this I imagine some purse addict like myself (maybe a little older) parting with her beloved bag that she stored in its original dust bag on a shelf.

That's a nice way to think about it. I always think it was someone cleaning out her mother's closet and not appreciating her mother's treasures!
