Thank you so much for all the info @katev ! Wow! Your Oat Suede Fringe Dinky came out fantastic! I'll try the Apple Brand suede cleaner and follow your steps. I really appreciate your input!
Let us know how you like the suede cleaner. I hated the Kiwi suede cleaner. It made rings. If you are going to dunk, and I don't know why you wouldn't, I don't know that you would need suede cleaner.

I just acquired a vintage stewardess bag. There were some strips of duct tape stuck on the interior on the inside zip pocket suede. I wondered, why? It pulled off easily, being who knows how many decades old. What I found underneath was disgusting!! There was gum (I think it was gum) and the foil wrappings on the gum all misshapen and melted and stuck in varying size globs hard as rock on the suede. So, rather than clean a mess in their bag, they covered it up with duct tape? Crazy. Anyway. I soaked the bag and then scrubbed the area with a toothbrush got really ALL the gum off it, but there remains speckles of foil and adhesive residue stuck on the suede. My idea is to pick at the pieces of foil with a tweezer. Any best ideas on how to remove duct tape residue from suede? I should have taken a picture of the original shocking mess. However, here's what it looks like now.
Tape gets rid of tape residue! You just stick it on and peel it up and the old tape goo might come off with it. It has worked for me when nothing else would.

I have a stewardess with multiple Sacks Fifth Avenue labels stuck inside. I keep them there as they're part of the bag's history and they seem to be permanently stuck anyway.

Good point, maybe the she should only try the suede cleaner if nothing else works!

@msplvsmsp just a word of caution, its always wise to test products first in an area that doesn’t show because bags may not always react the way you hope.

Is it raised, like something is in the surface? From the photos it almost looks like something splashed on it and actually removed colour.
It's raised. I have been picking it off but some of the spots are way too small. I did test the acetone on the strap and it took off all the white spots! but also the paper towel rubbed off some red. I don't know if I care though. It seems like it's still okay, no fade. Will definitely need a lot of conditioning if I do the whole back of the bag though. I might. It is just a made in China bag and I have already tried all the less invasive methods.

Did you try conditioner? Sometimes oil will loosen spots.

Yeah I did. And also alcohol. CPR I let sit on it for a while. It did nothing. I tried pretty much everything I could think of. Dish soap in the water. Then a little castille soap. Then some horrible laundry soap, then vinegar... Then I gave up and I'm letting it dry before attacking it with the acetone. The strap did give promising results so I think I'm ready. Honestly, for a $7 bag it's not the end of the world if I ruin it further than it already is. It's missing the zipper pull too. It's a nice style though, I have one in black already that I always liked.

Question: has anyone changed some hardware color from silver to brass? I have a stewardess with no feet and I recently found a dead bag at the GW outlet for a couple bucks and pulled it to bits for parts. I got a set of feet I'm ready to install on the Stewardess but they are silver. Many of my older bags with feet have brass plating that has worn off to make them silver anyway.. but I wonder if I couldn't color them gold with a gold sharpie or use that rub n buff stuff? Has anyone got any experience with that?

I believe @katev did something with rub n buff. I think on anything that gets use it wouldn't last long. Would sharpie dry on metal?

I have used Rub n Buff to touch up some worn Coach jewelry and I have also used it on a fob and it worked fine. But I don't think it would last very long in a high-touch area like a turnlock - but it's not very expensive and it's easy so it may be worth a try! See below for information about a jewelry repair that I did with Rub n Buff. Good luck!

Those Buckleguy feet are interesting. They look a bit different to the Coach ones though. They are flatter and less rounded on the bottoms.

I think I will try the rub n buff. If it wears off a bit it doesn't matter since the original Coach ones have brass plating that rubs off.

Look what just arrived in the post!! Hehehe. And so it begins again. But man I’m not looking forward to that pool of ink. It reminds me of the pool at the bottom of my Lula that exploded into a spot clear through to the outside when I tried to work on it. Ugh. I’ll try to file it down first before I get impatient with vinegar. Prayers!88F1AC41-5E0A-4AEC-B5DE-F506378D8246.jpeg

Hi there,

Can I safely dunk my 1986 Dinky in Twill #8375? I’m unsure how the fabric will stand up to a good soak/dry?

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks Ladies

I have never rehabbed a twill Dinky but I have washed several twill/canvas Coach bags and they've usually come out well. The Canvas Bleecker Flap at the link below was probably in the worst shape and I really got tough with that poor bag, but it cleaned up nicely and came out well!

I have dunked a twill slim Satchel, and unfortunately I ruined it with too much stain remover and bleached it out. Been sitting in the closet for like 5 years gathering dust. I can't remember if the tan leather bled onto the fabric too. I'll try and dig it up to see...
