A very helpful trick I've learned here (I believe from @whateve :hugs:) is to carefully use a hairdryer on the creed immediately after a dunk so that it dries quickly. The longer the leather remains wet, the more time the creed embossing has to swell causing it to become more faint. Watch that the heat is on the medium setting only, or if only hot is available, keep it at a distance from the leather so as not to damage it.
This is very helpful to know especially for the Shoulder Purse I plan on dunking!

I don't understand how the hot spoon trick works. This is driving me nuts. How? Will it also fix scratches where the leather flaps over the scratch? My rust Stewardess has a deeply angled scratch that might be fixed this way.
Okay, here's my take on the hot spoon trick. Those little nicks are probably tiny tears with a little flap or edge on the outer smooth layer of the full grain leather surface. If you take a newly dunked/conditioned bag, the layer of full grain leather has been thoroughly hydrated. Warmth will help the watery base of CPR penetrate the area of the freshly hydrated layer, imo. If the nick/tear is small enough, the hydration of the layer, the additional dab of CPR along with a little pressure, may allow the edge of the flap of the nick/tear to settle back in place. And give the appearance it has been glued. And we all know how forgiving the darker dyes are.
I use Cadillac Supreme and Lexol Conditioner as a light conditioner for maintenance. Maybe use this technic with your go-to maintenance condition on your rusty girl. Let us know if you do and how it turns out.
Did you hear that?? I think it is the rustle of a few leaves . . . . or maybe I just had a this delicious carrot raisin muffin with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. Won't be long . . .

OK Ladies, I dunked her this morning and now she's shaped and drying. I did a little bit of drying using the hairdryer and I'm about to do some more. I was a little worried that there was water between the layers on the flap. Did any of you experience something like that? Also, the hangtag shows a little separation at the top. How do you fix that?
Thanks so much for all the wonderful advice

Yes, I think I experienced water between the flap layers each time. Sorry I didn't mention this before... how quickly one forgets! :facepalm:Simply press down on the flap with an absorbent towel to encourage any water to escape, then carry on carefully with the hairdryer.

The hangtag can be carefully glued back together. :flowers:

I bought this Murphy last week (authenticated here) and it arrived yesterday. It had a dunking, several coats of CPR and one coat of Renapur. It is soaking everything in so fast! The inside was nasty and it stunk of smoke and that "vintage" odor. I'm really happy with the results except for the creed. It was already faint but now the serial numbers are so faint that I hope it's authenticity won't be questioned. (?)

Here are the before and after pics!

Update on Gracie. Decided the dunk wasn’t enough. Used alcohol to really clean the bag. A lot of dirt in the pockets of the leather. Did a small color refresh on the handle and previous areas that were damaged. Still some imperfections on the back. Finished with CPR and BR. Left to dry overnight. Polished brass. Here she is paired with a Coach gold chain strap.

Hi, I'm deep into rehabbing a Turkish Helen's Legacy authenticated here yesterday. It did seem pretty parched, but holy crap! I started only a few hours ago and it's almost dry. I thought it would take some time due to the size, but I've never had a bag dry so quickly. Has anyone else noticed this with bags from Turkey? Maybe the leather is different? I've been working outside in the sun, but there's not much breeze and the humidity is 94% (Note to self: Why ARE you working outside?) so I don't think that's the cause.

I love the bone (or is that chalk?) color in bags. I gravitate to them like none other. Fantastic work on the color refresh. Did you use a leather restorer color or acrylic paint?

I have used alcohol (91%) mixed with distilled water in a little travel size sprayer. The fine mist of the sprayer coupled with the distilled water and potent alcohol keeps the dye "intact" and prevents streaking. I've had a couple mishaps with rubbing alcohol.. :(
