Update  very interesting as it is drying to see the stains that did lift, that didn’t lift, scratches, wear etc! 5 apps of CPR so far. This bag was well used! I ordered Leather Therapy RC last week and it is here! I will take photos after I am done work, before I apply LT.
I am really interested to see how the patina develops. I feel like I am giving this bag back its dignity. And we still have Renapur to apply too.

So what do you think so far? Now I did take my current pics in less light (later in day) but the the color is accurate. The first and third are the front, the second and fourth are the back. This is with 5 apps of CPR. I will apply Leather Therapy RC shortly.
Okay! Here is an update for patina lovers; here we are after 2 apps of Leather Therapy . . .

l was able to get a good picture to accurately represent the color:smile:
I plan on using a hairdryer :flowers: @LadaZuri and warm the bag and run a paper towel over it for any LT not completely absorbed. Then buff like crazy for another 48 hours and then finish with Renapur. Then a little CPR for the inside smooth leather parts and spiff up the brass. Sound like a plan??
Oh oh eta, somewhere I do need to glue a little piping!

Good morning,
May I have some advice on cleaning a Sheridan bag please.
I have a crossbody bag in green with brown leather trim, bought it prelove a couple of years ago. The main part (green) is in good condition. The brown leather part is quite dark, is that the patina or dirt? What is the best product to use? Is the brown leather made of raw vachetta leather?
I have used Collonil leather gel but not noticed any difference. Collonil is my go to product if I am not familiar with the leather.
Many thanks in advance ☺

I can't offer specific advice unless you post photos of your bag, but here is some general information.

I've only rehabbed one Sheridan bag; it is the green and brown Glenwood Sheridan Bag 4225 from 1993 (retail $258). It was in terrible shape when I got it but I gave it a bath and moisturizer and it came out well, see the before and after links below.

I think that some of the dark color is patina from handling. I don't think that there is any way to remove that but it will look better when the other brown areas darken after cleaning and conditioning. I believe that it is glove-tanned leather not vachetta. I am not familar with Collonil leather gel. I usually use Leather Therapy, Leather CPR, and Black Rocks Leather n Rich.

Hi Katev,
I have taken a few pictures. I have noticed the green leather had developed some brown stain. This could be due to color transfers from the strap?
I fully intended to restore it after purchased and never got round to it. I have four uncles and aunties passed away in the last few months so I have started rehabing the bags to take my mind of things.
I just tried the leather cpr on the green leather and it didn't remove the stain.
Xxx

Sorry, I missed the pictures the first time! I usually work on spots like that by rubbing them with my fingers/fingernail while the bag is in the bath. Sometimes that helps, especially if there is a gummy, adhesive substance stuck to the leather.

Finishing the bag with Black Rocks Leather 'n Rich often helps camouflage scuffs and faded, worn areas. If nothing else works I will consider spot-touching areas with acrylic, hobby/craft paint mixed with Leather CPR.
Thanks for your reply. Black Rocks is not readily available in Australia. I purchased some Renapur, will that work in a similar fashion or should I be looking at Black Rocks specifically?

I was a little afraid of working the patch too much as these were first attempts when they were in the water. Perhaps I should put the one with gum on it back in the bath and have another go.

I have put bags back in the bath when I was not satisfied with the progress; it probably wouldn't hurt and it might help. Renapur is a fine product and it may be beneficial.

It definitely looks like patina and I don't think that there is much you can do about it. I would probably give the bag a bath, scrub it well, stuff it to dry, treat it with leather CPR, and then apply Black Rock Leather n Rich to the brown leather to see if it darkens the other leather a little, polish the hardware, and replace the hangtag (if it is missing?)

I don't know about the brown stains on the green leather, perhaps someone else can advise you? Good luck!

It sounds lovely, please post pictures!

I only have one Bonnie Cashin bag with a kisslock and the striped lining (and I didn't spend much money on it) but I dunked it because it was dirty and misshapen and a bit smelly - and it came out great!

You can see before and after pictures at the link below - and also some pictures in the bath!

Here are the "before" pics.... I was surprised this had a matching hangtag too.

Thanks. I'll stick with the Renapur for now.

On the white marks, I'll try the Renapur first and see how it looks, it's on the back of the bag and I'm a bit impatient to use it as it took so long to dry.

On the gum I think I'll try and give it another dunk and scrub.

It's gorgeous! It appears to be in good shape, what are your rehab plans?

I am also surprised by the hangtag, I didn't think that they came with Coach bags during that era.

LOL... What are my rehab plans? Basically to ask this thread what to do. :-s
I have rehabbed a few Vintage bags with the help of this thread, but they were all the natural color bags with brass hardware. I'm not sure what to do with this one, but I am glad to hear these old ones can be dunked. Some of the marks on the outside might be water spots that will disappear.

The hangtag threw me - and for a moment I was worried that this might have been dyed. But fortunately I saw another photo of a bag like this (in this color) on Pinterest.

Does anyone know what this color is called?

That is one gorgeous bag with great patina, Lake! You've done a beautiful job!

I have both BR and Renapur and love them both. Renapur is thicker, so heating it on the sponge makes it easier to massage into the leather. BR has a creamier texture, but they say it can darken light coloured leather somewhat. I tend to reach for Renapur more often for some reason.

I have been enjoying my bag rehabs over the past several weeks. It seems like Friday night is wash night as I can usually get to a couple of coats of Leather CPR over the weekend. Interestingly, it is not the purses but the Prescott soft briefcase that has been my go-to carry this past week. Yes, a bit heavy, but beautifully organized and I know where my ID, notebook, keys, and other items are. It’s a great work bag! Excuse the dim lighting as it is late. Couldn’t have done it without your tips and the authentication here.

That's good to know. My Renapur should be delivered sometime early next week. The CPR is still a few weeks away . I have deliberately purchased some old beaten up test bags to see what the results are like before I start on the newer ones. I accidentally stretched the creed of the bag with the gum on it. It is really faint now, but I don't plan on selling or giving it away. I had scrubbed with a horse hair brush inside the pocket, but was a little too vigorous.

Thanks for your advice. I have enjoyed the process of rehabbing so far.

Thanks Katev for taking time to answer my questions.
I will have a go this weekend.
Do you think it is safe to use saddle soap or stick to hand-washing liquid?
