Hi Everyone,

I am fairly new to tPF. I am not sure what is more addictive, the bags or the leather products (of course it's the bags ). I had purchased a number of products just from the supermarket and a product named Saphir. I have just ordered some CPR based on the positivity on this forum. Unfortunately, delivery is still three weeks away.

One of the bags is a Patricia (authenticated, thanks @BeenBurned), I have washed and soaked. The bag had been misshapen and I had used some towels to reshape while wet. However, the back of the bag is still a bit saggy due to the interior back pocket, but doesn't look too bad. There are also a couple of white scuff looking marks that I was unable to remove.

Will the CPR remove these if applied to wet leather? Do you recommend something else?

Also, could you please give me some advice to remove what looks to be dried chewing gum from the smooth surface side of a bag?

Thanks in advance.
I wouldn't buy saphir again. I thought it was ok before I got leather cpr and now I only want to use cpr (for regular conditioning).

eta please post photographs so people can advise you better!

@katev & @Narnanz how does the bottom of your 9033 look? I've straightened the sides of mine after the dunk but it makes the bottom fold in weirdly because of the pocket side. View attachment 5176352

Sorry, I gave my Ergo 9033 away as a gift about 10 years ago and I don't remember how the bottom looked after rehab, but I think that your bag looks good!

@Lake Effect I've received my 65th Anniversary Legacy Flap Bag 11134 (see link below) and it's very dirty but the the citron color is better than I hoped because it looks very faded in the photos. I hope that it will clean up well, but it definitely needs a bath.

The bag is missing the hangtag, of course! Could you please show me the correct hangtag(s) for this bag? I probably won't be able to match the original but I'd like to be as consistent as possible.

And I'd appreciate your advice about the rehab, thanks in advance!

@Lake Effect I found a photo of a whiskey Legacy Flap bag online and it looks like it has 2 hangtags, a matching leather tag with contrast stitching and a button medallion; is that the same as your bag?

Thanks for your reply. I'll hold off purchasing anymore conditioner until my CPR arrives.

I am attaching a couple of photos of the white marks and the last one which I think is a gum spot.

I am sorry I don't have a whole lot to offer. My bag was essentially unused! One of the hardware rings on the side was still covered in paper. It did have a light stain down the front. Who knows how that happened. Anyway, with @whateve 's encouragement, I was considering a dunk, to see if I could improve the stain. But first, I decided to give it a wipe with my go-to Lexol Cleaner solution. I dampened the bag just short of saturating it. With that, the stain lifted. After that I gave it a little Cadillac Supreme and it was go to go.

Here is a pic of the stain.

Thanks! My bag is dirty inside and out, so it will need a bath.

 Hey, hang! Some really great rehabs have happened since I have checked in here! Haven't been very active lately(easier to keep the wishlist down when not looking at bags all day lol,) but wanted to show you all something I've been working on.

I have been looking at the NASA collection since I got back into coach, and I was really sad I missed out on it. I don't often consider buying non-vintage bags, but I really LOVE that collection. I just can't bring myself to spend the $$$ on one bag when I know I could probably buy 10+ vintage for the cost. So with a bit of inspiration from @Punkkitten and a few others, I decided to create my own cheaper version of a NASA bag! It was hard to decide which bag to use considering it would have to be punctured, but after much browsing and consideration of which bag to possibly ruin...I ended up going with a $20 black Patti since there are hundreds, if not thousands, of them for sale.

I am glad I went for it, because I love it! I even made my own fob! I need to buy some actual chain for the fob as I just used what I had handy, but I am really happy with it overall. I think I am going to add a couple more things to the flap, but not until I am completely sure where. So here is my OOAK Nasa vintage Patti! The NASA and star are Coach pins, the ISS is an actual NASA pin, and the charms on the fob were things I found at Hobby Lobby. I might possibly add a 3d moon later, but I actually kinda like the flat one since it isn't bulky or heavy. Not sure yet.

I don't think I have ever used Saphir (?) but you should quickly apply some brand of good quality conditioner on the leather to keep it from drying out. I most frequently use Leather CPR and finish with Black Rocks Leather n Rich. Sometimes I start with Leather Therapy first if the bag is very dry.

Can you post pictures of the white scuffs and of the area that looks gummy?

Hi Ladies
I found a Bonnie Cashin double kiss lock in dark lavender today- with the stripe lining.
How do you clean these old, lined bags? You don't dunk them - do you?
There are various scuffs and marks on the outside- pix to come tomorrow.

It sounds lovely, please post pictures!

I only have one Bonnie Cashin bag with a kisslock and the striped lining (and I didn't spend much money on it) but I dunked it because it was dirty and misshapen and a bit smelly - and it came out great!

You can see before and after pictures at the link below - and also some pictures in the bath!

Good morning,
May I have some advice on cleaning a Sheridan bag please.
I have a crossbody bag in green with brown leather trim, bought it prelove a couple of years ago. The main part (green) is in good condition. The brown leather part is quite dark, is that the patina or dirt? What is the best product to use? Is the brown leather made of raw vachetta leather?
I have used Collonil leather gel but not noticed any difference. Collonil is my go to product if I am not familiar with the leather.
Many thanks in advance ☺

Thanks for your reply. I have included some pictures to my post #36,319. I have applied some of the Saphir conditioner and this has worked pretty well and made the Leather supple. I am not planning on purchasing anymore, I'll use up what I have left and once the CPR arrives, I'll give that a go.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate all the advice.

Sorry, I missed the pictures the first time! I usually work on spots like that by rubbing them with my fingers/fingernail while the bag is in the bath. Sometimes that helps, especially if there is a gummy, adhesive substance stuck to the leather.

Finishing the bag with Black Rocks Leather 'n Rich often helps camouflage scuffs and faded, worn areas. If nothing else works I will consider spot-touching areas with acrylic, hobby/craft paint mixed with Leather CPR.
