You can knot the strap. That’s what I did with my scooter when I had one. I didn’t like the knot at first but it grew on me. I took the bag all over the place & no one ever cared or noticed that there was a knot. Here’s the only pic I seem to have of the knot:

This is probably the only way unless you permanently get the strap shortened since it’s one tubular piece of leather. Sorry

Eta: forgot to mention it, but in my pic the knot is done loosely because I took the picture as an example for when I listed the bag. You can tighten the knot which makes it smaller than what’s shown by pulling it upwards if that makes sense.
Thank you! I’ll give the knot a go. If it still doesn’t work my incredibly tall SIL would probably be the new owner :)

I know you will but psa do remember to keep it well conditioned as my distressed nyc dinky was knotted and had cracked:sad: lol
Good tip! I’ll keep that in mind. Nothing worse than dry cracked leather.

Basic rehab question: are we supposed to apply leather conditioner to the sueded surfaces? I have not been, only to the finished side of bags and straps, but I don’t sweat it if some conditioner gets on the sueded side.

I am really enjoying everybody’s catalog photos. A lot of foresight to save those!

I believe it is not advised to use conditioner on suede. I think it says on the product which surfaces to use on. My suggestion is a suede eraser and brush. You “erase” the suede and then go over with the brush. It’s the best way to clean it but can be labor intensive if covering a wide surface area. I use it on the Nubuc Sonoma bags too.

I've never tried it, but Preservation Solutions offers a conditioner for suede and nubuck:

Hi ladies, this isn’t exactly a rehab question per se do feel free to redirect my query elsewhere. I just received a Quincey and rediscovered how short I am. Is it possible to shorten the strap without chopping it? I love it but it does make me feel and look hobbit sized
You can also cross the straps over ! I have a scooter and I hide the extra straps like this and it is just the right length for me and u will not notice it from outside but it obvious is not a perfect way when u open your purse constantly :

I finally got a Ranch! Found this BT Ranch on Poshmark and snapped it up. She was a pretty straight forward rehab with a bath, 5-6 coats of Leather CPR, 1 application of Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP, and 2 applications of Blackrocks.

I’m loving the patina and marks on the flap! I’m saving her to use on a road trip early next month.

Short people problems! I couldn’t deal with the length of the Quincy strap - somehow, knotting it made it too short - so I ended up taking off the strap by ripping out the seams and installing rings so I could use different straps.

I tried crossing the straps with the Casey, which made it the perfect length, but then I couldn’t open the bag without having to redo crossing the straps! I just deal with it being too long now (same with the Scooter) since I don’t want to alter it, though I wonder if there’s something I can use to strap the crossed parts together so they’ll stay….

Knotting has only worked for me on the 6908 pouch (passport pouch? Travel pouch?), which has a SUPER long strap. I always unknot it before storing the bag;)

It’s a rehabbing miracle! Yesterday I gave this poor spectator Court a 30min dunk with vinegar and dawn while scrubbing it with a horsehair brush. I was expecting the dye flakes to fully come off in the dunk and my plan was to just go over it with paint+cpr to fill in the holes once it was dry. After the dunk I stuffed it and did one coat of leather CPR. Woke up this morning to find the scratches filled in and the flakes all flattened:eek:

Definitely still need to go over it with paint, but the flakes/scratches had me worried about how the texture would turn out. Happy to say I think this might turn out better than I expected
Gonna give it some more CPR today while I wait for the paint to come in tomorrow.

It's beautiful! I wish mine was BT instead of mahogany. The mahogany is pretty too but I really love BT.

wow, that's amazing!

I'm in need of a wristlet strap for a Basic Bag. It is completely missing, so I don't know exactly what it should look like or the length/width/etc to search for one. Any recommendations for finding a replacement or advice on how it should look? Thank you.

Here’s some pics of mine! It’s 7 & 1/4th inches in length & half an inch in width. It also has a clamp piece that’s covered in leather, it hides where the strap connects after looping:

Nice!!! You're talking to the right person here when it comes to BT patina!
I got lucky and found a maho-gundy Ranch early on for $25 in my vintage search. I called off my search for Stewie after I found it. Nice and roomy.

That's amazing! Yay! For those times when a rehab comes out a little better than expected.
