Cracking is rare and usually only happens when the leather has been allowed to get extremely dry over many years. That bag looks to be in good shape. I think it would do well with a dunking. There isn't another method that works as well as dunking. I've never had a bag crack on me from dunking that I can remember but I remember someone dunking something that literally fell apart in the bath.

Your bag looks to be in good shape, so I would not worry about dunking it. As whatev mentions below, the benefits are tremendous. You can always condition it first to be extra careful, but it honestly doesn't seem to need it.

I have never had a problem dunking and I rehabbed a 50 year old Sling Bag a few months ago with no issue at all.

Morning!

Just finished this rehab with a very lazy buff of this 1997 Willis in Mahogany.

I’m continually amazed at how good the leather quality has withstood the test of time on these old girls.

A quick before/after…

Stay safe

Zoe xx

I think Im the only one here eho is not a Basic fan...its just too small for me. Thinking of using my one and only as a pouch in a bigger bag
My first rehab was a terribly mistreated Basic Bag. I’ve kept that fringing for posterity!

I’ll never part with her and use her for occasional forays where I don’t need to carry much around with me…

I’m very lazy at buffing…are there any tips out there?
But seriously, as far as body mechanics go - keep your elbow locked into your side and only use your forearm to do the work. This seems to lessen the strain on my shoulders and elbows for me. Put on some System of a Down and buff to the beat! That’s what I do! :happydance:
(I also have to wear an elbow brace - the kind for tennis elbow - this may also help)
