Almost finished rehabbing a court. It's obvious that it was carried by the handle a lot, that's where the majority of the wear/scratches/fading is. I've managed to get the colour back but the handle, when you lay it flat, has wrinkles. Has anyone out there encountered this before? How did you deal with it?

could you post pictures of the problem?

You can see it’s nice and smooth when supporting the weight of the bag, but when you lie it flat it ripples. I tried a steam iron and press cloth and it helped a bit but I don’t think it will be permanent. I usually use the strap to carry.

It doesn't look bad but if it bothers you then I understand completely. When I have had bags that were badly misshapen or wrinkled, I've sometimes tried to form, weight, or stretch the area while it is still wet/damp so that it dries the way I want. Sometimes it works and sometimes not so much.

I often use heavy kitchenware, like ceramic bowls or glass vases and try to mold the item around the object, but the areas around the top handle on a court bag is tight so that might not work.

Below are photos of the Oat Suede Fringe Dinky that I rehabbed and it had a nasty wrinkle across the front. I used string and heavy weights and it helped but it didn't eliminate the wrinkle entirely.

Good luck and let us know if you have some success!

Thanks for the link.OMG! I laughed out loud at the picture of your bag dungeon! I have to admit I’ve rigged a similar situation for some of my rehabs. Only here would we be able to share this without question . Yeah I think it’s probably not going to be noticed by anyone but me. I tend to get a little too focused on the flaws instead of enjoying the success. Beautiful job BTW!

I have a Court like this and I just always have the handle pulled up. I think over time the leather stretched and now has excess material when it’s flat. I don’t know if anything could fix it, but it doesn’t bother me much.

LOL I was mulling over for ages when doing my rehabs what you said about applying it only when wet and was going to ask - what do you do if you miss the mark and the bag dries too far but the bag still needs conditioner? Do you just be like 'oh well, it's already dry now' and go ahead and use finisher regardless? Or apply another conditioner that absorbs into dry leather better first?:lol::lol:

I start applying CPR straight out of the bath, but continue applying as long as is required even if the bag is dry.

It doesn't appear to have shoe polish to me. I think the reflection of the light source is the culprit.

To me, I feel that these types of imperfections are part of the beauty and age of the bag. I'm sure it would be more noticeable to you than to someone who looks at it in passing. I really embrace the imperfections as part of its history and I think they are lovely. I don't think the handle looks bad at all. I think you've done a really good job with it.

Mine did that when I (stupidly) dried it hung by its handle. I wound up not liking the bag as a whole so I moved it on.

Unsure why you think it doesnt look good. I vote keep it and use for a while. Especially if you are not sure. It might be hard to find another.

@Birdie13 Would it work to move the handle into the desired position/form and then use a toothpick to apply a couple of dollops of leather glue between the handle and leather loops on the top of the bag - to hold it in position? I don't know if it would last but since you don't usually carry bags by the handle maybe that would be a solution?

My Court handle is always pulled up, too! I shaped it that way when I rehab her, so I never noticed a wrinkle.

Good Morning Everyone,

I have been overwhelmed with paralysis in attempting any rehab on this special girl.

However, I have conditioned her with a goodly number of CPR coats and applied a top coat of Renapur (before I imported my Blackrocks). The brass I have given a cursory buff, in-situ, with a jewellers’ cloth.

She is too precious for me to keep in a dustbag in my wardrobe and I don’t have the competence nor the confidence to rehab her further. So with a heavy heart, and following the old adage “if you love someone (thing) let it go”, I’m going to be doing just that.

Beforehand though, I wanted to thank you all for your wisdom, support and encouragement, and have attached a few photos of her current progress.

Take care

Zoe xx
I think the bag looks fantastic as it is. Love the wrinkles on the back. The color is beautiful. And what you did with the brass is great. I love to think about the miles this bag earned over the years and the flight attendant who carried it. I would absolutely wear this with pride as is. Wouldn't it be great to carry this on an airplane? :-)

The product of my Station rehabs. So the BT had stains that would not come out, and so I used obenauf to give an even patina and decided to cover the stains on the top portion with some ginko leaves I carved. The green is like a tomboy who takes her scars as a badge of honor :annoyed: Mutiple coats of CPR and the slightest touch of obenauf and the scratches still show, slightly less than before, but stubborn.
Any counsel? Red evened out and the black looks awesome!!!
Do you mind if I ask, did you dunk the either the red or green Station bags pictured here? If so, was there a lot of color bleed? (The ginkgo leaves look great, BTW. What a creative solution.)
