Scotchguard should be fine for the canvas. I really don't know what it will do to the leather. Remove the strap and possibly tape up the leather corners before spraying.

You can use scotchguard on leather too. I have a pair of Vans winter shoes that are made of suede & leather. They came with a tag that said the exterior had been treated with scotchguard so they could be waterproof in the snow.

Finished my “I thought it was rust but it was actually BT” Dinky! The only thing I couldn’t fix was the dark mark across the front flap. It’s not too bad so I don’t think Im gonna cover it up with patches or anything. If it gets worse overtime, Ill probably dye the entire bag a darker colour. I also didn’t polish the hardware so maybe don’t zoom in too close... lol

Wow on that verdigris! And then more WOW on the finished bag

Oohhh beautiful burgundy! Your corner repair looks great.

Also - BAG TWINS! I finished a burgundy basic bag (without a strap) recently, and just bought a burgundy saddle pouch.

Echoing a convo from the Vintage Chat thread earlier this week...I lost my burgundy basic bag for about a week. My 3 year old decided it was hers and stole it, haha. I managed to get it back by moving her play “phone” and crayons and the notepad she also stole into a different/beat up/mahogany basic bag I bought as a project bag last year. So...she still has a vintage Coach. Lol.

ETA: I love old basic bags, I find the shape super satisfying in lovely old leather. I carry them as a clutch or as a smaller purse inside a larger work bag like a giant tote, so I don’t mind ones with missing straps!
Do I spy a taupe/putty Prairie in the background?

Haha, thanks! I used a dryer sheet & a toothpick to get all the verdigris off. I decided to keep the un-polished & dingy looking turn lock because it matched the character of the bag!
I had verdigris in my Prairie and I used a kitchen scrub pad (the green kind) on it. It took it off no problem, but it left spots on the plate. So gross. The Brasso took care of it though. Must have eaten through the top coat of the hardware. I didn't know dryer sheets work, too! Hey, if the shoe fits

I had to do a post search so I could give proper credit. I got the tip from @Busykitty who got it from Deb the restorer. It works really well!

Hi ladies, super happy today - it's sunny and warm... and also my BT casino arrived a week early! No CPR so still can't dunk anything☹ but is this normal? The back of the flap and some of the inside is all weird and flat. Very smooth and flat which you can see contrasted with the fluffy restored red one @Busykitty sold me. I'm assuming it fluffs and plumps back up after a good dunk and scrub? I don't have the flatness with my unrehabbed Court.

I'm considering grabbing a possible alternative to Leather CPR to tide me over until summer as it's been warm and sunny recently and I reeeeeally want to dunk my bags... What does everyone think of Chamberlain's leather milk / balm, or Leather Honey? Those are ones I can get in the UK via Amazon prime to arrive tomorrow so I could dunk the bags and dry them out in the sun tomorrow before conditioning!!!

So excited xx

Some of my bags are flat on the interior & some are more “fuzzy”. I never thought there was anything wrong with either. I think It just depends how much the bag was used.

My experience with leather honey is so so. Tried chamberlain too, better but still far below than cpr. Sapphire brand leather balm lotion is better than the 2 you mentioned, it kind of combined cpr and black rock together.
Still cpr and BR is better than sapphire lotion, but if you have to find alternatives, that is what I will recommend

Thanks! Any experience with chamberlain's or honey? Xx

I used Leather Honey on an extremely dry Plaza bag last year. It didn’t do anything & I think I did like 10+ coats. I personally think it sucks but there are others who like using it. Sorry, Ive never used Chamberlain’s so I can’t comment on that!

Eta: I looked up my old plaza rehab posts, I did 15 coats of LH with no change!

The flat nap you are seeing is completely normal for a bag that hasn't been dunked. It has just been packed down from the edge of the bag under the flap. It will fluff right back up again with a dunk and use of a suede brush. :flowers:

Here's the one I bought:

Edited to add that some suede is smoother than others... I have a Regina that is really hairy!!!

I always “fluff” up my inside flaps now after seeing a post from @whateve after dunking.
Dunking usually takes some of the fluffiness away. I use a little boars hair brush to fluff.
