rehab challenge
Anyone want to try giving this aqua Sonoma some love?
Ha! I just had to throw that stitch, hardware and budget requirement out there, eh? I’ve got the red saddle bag and the men’s clutch coming now. May need some advice on that saddle bag stain! It looks a bit waxy in the pictures. I’ll let you all know when it’s in hand. The aqua is beautiful though.

And then I saw this small Bleecker for $12:

Gosh, such an addictive hobby!

I have an aqua Sonoma stuck somewhere in the ether for just short of a month. Hoping she will be located by the wonderful seller.

Would this Sonoma be "dunkable" (because of the lining)? I'm considering her. MTIA!

Edited to add that it doesn't seem I can buy her from Canada. Would still be interested to know if she (or any bag with lining) can be dunked? Thanks so much!

(Does Poshmark not have the click to enlarge photo feature?)

You can dunk Sonomas. I washed one in a washing machine once. When it is drying, you have to keep the lining from touching the leather as it could bleed but I don't think it was a problem during the wash.

That's great to know, @whateve! Would a bag have to be excessively dirty for you to machine wash versus dunking? Do you use a mesh laundry pouch to protect it? TIA!

Yes, it would have to be really dirty for me to machine wash. I used a mesh laundry pouch. This was many years ago when I didn't have much rehabbing experience. I think it was more faded than dirty but I didn't realize that at the time.

Ok...What Have I missed with @houseof999 and her profile pic...something tells me theres a story here
Oh it's nothing relating to tpf. I was just venting.. I have a post on Poshmark with photos of my dogs that passed away. You have to list a price so I had it at $9999. It's common practice on there when you have extra pics to use a high price amount. This dumb, rude and insensitive lady actually thought I was trying to sell my dead dogs for $9999.

Wow.....yep...dumb and rude.

Welp I am probably looking at another dye to black rehab job this weekend. I took my gray saddle bag out one day last week and I just did not love the gray to be honest. When I purchased that bag I was really wanting a saddle bag in black but I found the gray for a reasonable price, I think it was maybe $45 including tax and shipping. So I had not dunked it yet but when I wore it out, I realized it was still a little on the slouchy looking side, so I went ahead and dunked early this week. The dunk did a fantastic job resetting the shape, as I expected it would, but it also cleaned up the leather quite a bit and revealed that there is a slight fade on the top of the bag as well as a visible large pen streak right across the flap. :annoyed: So I then proceeded to make the mistake of trying to use a tiny bit of alcohol and now there is a q-tip sized deglazed streak plus a pen mark on the ever-so-slightly-kind-of-noticible-in-the-sun faded flap. I think it is another situation where I will likely get more use out of it if it were black anyway.

Why does the sun reveal so much?! I hate it when that happens, and it happens to me quite a bit, lol. As well as pen marks showing up after a dunk. Good luck with dye #2!

It really does show a lot more of the flaws in my bags! Argh! Well, since now I am an old pro at this, you see, this should go pretty smooth. Hopefully haha. Plus I don't expect as much challenge getting even coverage going gray to black as there was going red to black!

I mentioned last week that I was going to rehab a sweet little Murphy bag (the last two photos are the "before"). He really wasn't in horrible shape, he was just really flat. He's all finished. A dunk, a couple coats of Leather CPR and then a coat of Renapur with a final fluff from a horsehair brush. I didn't do much with the hardware because I actually like the patina on it. Third photo shows what it will hold. I actually don't mind that my wallet has to go upright because it is easier to grab, but I'm sure glad it isn't bigger. I could probably fit an inhaler and an epi-pen (upright) in there too. Overall, I am very happy with him. The bottom flattened out really nicely. My first attempt, and it probably won't be my last!!
