I dunked the sad Beekman today and spent some time wiping down the handle while it was in the wash. I hoped to get the black residue off but as it's drying, it's still there. Any tips on how to clean oils and dirt off of a well worn handle? This was before the dunk: View attachment 4770489View attachment 4770490
Alas, I failed at removing it on my Sherbourne and a red Regina even rubbing Dawn the grease cutting soap directly onto it.

Hello all! I just found one of the made in Italy bags and I don’t know much about them. Are they dunkable ? Or what are your recommendations on how to try to refurbish the bag a bit and try to smooth out the indentations ? Thanks in advance!

I have rehabbed several coach made in Italy bags and some of them just needed surface cleaning and conditioning and some needed a bath. They rehabbed well after dunking but they take several days to dry. Here are before and after pics of 2 Madison Italian bags that got baths and rehabbed well.

ETA: I just saw that you got a navy Madison Carlyle for only $2.50; that's an amazing steal, congratulations!

$286 in the 90's worth much more in today's money. Yeah super steal.

Yes! That catalog page is from 1996. I checked an inflation calculator and $286 in 1996 has the buying power of $467.36 today!

The red lunch box is in the wash. A bit fearful how this will work out because it felt kind of crunchy hard. I think the seller just slapped something on to make it look shiny and said “washed and conditioned“. It was missing the leather tab off its zipper so I spent $6 to get a scrap of red leather almost the same color and want to make a pattern using the tab on my periwinkle one and try sewing my own replacement so it is properly on the ring. Of course I have never sewn leather before so I say this like it will be doable and easy.
I thought some one here a while back glued the pieces together for a zipper pull. It looked decent iirc correctly.

Pocket zip is almost done...just needs a little more drying in the exterior pocket and a Renapur application.
@Hyacinth thought it might be Loden and that means my Legacy Zip is Loden as well.View attachment 4771302View attachment 4771303
Looks great! My ink purple (not sure if that's what the color was called) arrived and I'll start on it once the Saddlery is done. I hope I'll like the hobo style, I've been a crossbody girl for so long. My first impression though is they absolutely nailed the strap length. It's a perfect drop for shoulder wear, long enough to not sit in your pits, but it's short enough to not look outlandish for brief handheld or crook-of-arm periods. And so sturdy! How do you like yours?
ETA still fuming. The Loden one could have been mine!

I find them really comfortable to use and yes the strap length is great so absolutely agree with you there. Roughly the same size as the Legacy Zip and Ive rehabbed them so they stand up nicely when in use.
I prefer the purple to the green for some reason.

I tried a nail buffing block on the brass on two court bags recently and it made very quick work out of the project! I tried originally with one of those green kitchen scrubbing pads but it wasn't taking the clear coat off easily or evenly, and I don't have a dremel. The nail buffing blocks took care of it in no time at all! I went with the lightest grain I could find.
I finally bought a small dremel with bullet and flame fine grit filing bits because I just can't stand doing the brass. The dremel makes it kinda fun, at least not as much of a drag as before. probably similar to using a nail file actually. I could have saved some $. Haha!

I'm on furlough again through next week so I think I'll keep my mind off of the happenings of the world by doing a Mardi Gras Station bag marathon rehab. The purple one came to me rehabbed but the other three need some serious TLC. The green one has a large stain on the front that will hopefully come out. Wish me luck!View attachment 4769911
Omg! I'm so jealous! Have fun!

If you’re using a sewing machine- make sure you use a needle that can sew leather. I learned this the hard way by having my needle snap while working on suede. Im lucky it didn’t hit me in the eye. If you’re doing it by hand, cover your finger tips with some cushion because it becomes uncomfortable pushing a needle through thick fabric. Hope it turns out great for you
You can solve the finger pain problem by using an awl to punch through the leather before using a needle, and you should use a needle for leather; they have a different tip, kind of like a tiny blade. You might also want to mark your intended holes in the leather before you use an awl so it looks nice afterward. Leather is not at all like material, and free hand sewing will look terrible. There's a little wheel thingy with little spikes on it that you roll on the leather (no need to press hard; you just want to mark it), or you could use a fork, although the holes will be further apart.

Let me start from the beginning, haha. This is what I would do. Cut your leather; mark one side with holes; glue the 2 sides together to keep it in place while your working with it, obviously don't glue your loop together; you're going to have to attach it to the metal pull on the zipper before gluing, making your little job a lot harder; let it dry; lay it on a hard surface and use the awl to push through each hole; sew with a modified saddle stitch; finish with edge coat if desired. You don't have to do it this way, but your results should look good of you do.

This ergo I thrifted was missing its pull. I made this one. It’s not like the original one, but I think it turned out pretty well. I did use a thimble. It was a miracle finding a scrap of leather the same color.CBCDA018-42E8-4317-B4DD-5923275C8B43.jpeg
