Haha I did! To be fair though, polishing brass is my least favourite part so I rush through it and tell myself “Ill come back and do it properly later”... and then later never comes lol
I’m the same... my excuse though is I don’t “prefer” super shiny brass on 20+ year old bags because it just doesn’t “match” (=I just don’t like polishing haha)

I tried a nail buffing block on the brass on two court bags recently and it made very quick work out of the project! I tried originally with one of those green kitchen scrubbing pads but it wasn't taking the clear coat off easily or evenly, and I don't have a dremel. The nail buffing blocks took care of it in no time at all! I went with the lightest grain I could find.

I'm on furlough again through next week so I think I'll keep my mind off of the happenings of the world by doing a Mardi Gras Station bag marathon rehab. The purple one came to me rehabbed but the other three need some serious TLC. The green one has a large stain on the front that will hopefully come out. Wish me luck!View attachment 4769911
The purple and the blue are devine!

The red lunch box is in the wash. A bit fearful how this will work out because it felt kind of crunchy hard. I think the seller just slapped something on to make it look shiny and said “washed and conditioned“. It was missing the leather tab off its zipper so I spent $6 to get a scrap of red leather almost the same color and want to make a pattern using the tab on my periwinkle one and try sewing my own replacement so it is properly on the ring. Of course I have never sewn leather before so I say this like it will be doable and easy.

If you’re using a sewing machine- make sure you use a needle that can sew leather. I learned this the hard way by having my needle snap while working on suede. Im lucky it didn’t hit me in the eye. If you’re doing it by hand, cover your finger tips with some cushion because it becomes uncomfortable pushing a needle through thick fabric. Hope it turns out great for you :)

My BT Lunch Box is also missing that tab! I just bought a cute tassel to use as a pull. I have some scrap brown leather somewhere around here, but I'm being lazy and don't want to have to look for it. Plus, I still have to buy some waxed thread and leather needles. I have a set on my Amazon wishlist, I just have to pull the trigger!

My step dad had a small awl, so I am going to try to put divots if not holes in the leather with that first and then try sewing it. Since it is such a small piece and I was going to use nylon pearl “silk” I have left from strands I knotted to sew it Rather than buy waxed thread just for this. I have burgundy thread and the lunch box was darkened enough that I think the colors will work.

I don't do rehab but I do sew. When you can use white thread, I've found that waxed dental floss is a great strong alternative!

I did that once. The stitches came out all crooked and uneven. It is hard to sew on leather if you don't have the right equipment.
