It's pretty bad. It looks like someone tried to clean an ink stain with bleach and not only made the stain worse but splattered the bleach everywhere. I bought it this way ($20 shipped I think). I got cocky after a few successful rehabs and thought I could work with this one but nope. It's ruined. I do want to paint it though because I love this color and it's impossible to find. The front isn't too bad at all.

Honestly, the position of that spot is pretty much perfect for an "embellishment". A flower in that spot would look lovely and really seem like an intentional part of the design,

The bleach mark is easier to cover up with paint since it is lighter. Especially if you paint the whole panel. The yellow green mark at bottom will be tough may need embellishment to cover up. I recently touched the worn corners of a blue bag, the color I mixed was not completely match, but still blended in very well. Before was from eBay listing.

The leather glows now but not all the dark places cleaned up as much as I hoped v

I think this bag is spectacular and your rehab is amazing! But I know that you are still a little disappointed with the darker areas on the bag like the handles and flap.

Personally, I think it looks great but if the discoloration bothers you then you might consider applying Black Rocks Leather n Rich. It may darken the bag a very little (not much) but that may make the color appear more even and the differences less noticeable. You could try applying it in an obscure area first just to test it and I think you will find that the change is subtle.

You have to apply Black Rocks very sparingly, rub it into an area and then quickly rub off the excess, let it sit for awhile and then buff with a soft horsehair brush. BRs has an odor but it dissipates soon.

This is just a suggestion, I think your rehab is terrific, but if the darker areas are lessening your enjoyment of this special bag then you might consider giving BRs a try.

One more comment. There have been times when I "kept going" with a rehab because I was trying to make it better and I actually made it worse. It's easier to take chances on a cheaper bag. You might first consider trying BRs on a different (less valuable) British Tan bag to experiment and see if you like it.

Good luck!

I feel the same about all my original Coach bags I had when I first started working. I bought one a year and then donated the old one to Goodwill. I really wish I could even remember what styles they were. I might have even had a pony!
I purchased a British tan Murphy in college and then a mahogany small side pack and grey tango flap—I donated all of them to goodwill when I felt they weren’t in style anymore...what in the world was I thinking????? :confused1: When I got back into vintage coach I asked my mom if she still had the mahogany Willis my sisters and I gave her for her birthday a “million” years ago. Well, she had it in the basement in her donation pile! I still haven’t rehabbed it but I’m keeping it FOREVER!!

My next rehab project arrived today, a 9585 Saddle Pouch Large in Saddle color. Made in NYC, it has anchors stamped on the buckles, the first time I've seen this. A small pleasure makes my day.

Ohhh. Anchors on buckles! I am aware of them on dog leash style and lobster clasp style clips, and now buckles too! :smartass: *learns something new at Vintage Academy*

My quarantine haul. I decided to look for some bags that I’ve been wondering about on the cheap to see if I like them or not. The Dakota (which one is it, does anyone know?) is a work in progress, others haven’t been touched at all. Lindsay looks promising; I did not care much for the style, but after seeing them on the Coach website for almost $700, couldn’t resist grabbing this one for $20 delivered. The Monticello turned out to be too bulky for me, did not realize how fat it is, will probably rehab and sell.

Nice haul!

Your Dakota is probably a Rider Bag:

I got my black Station bag today, opened the box with gloves on just kind of dumped out the bag, threw away the box and gloves and then dunked the bag immediately. This is a replacement for me because I sent the one I just finally finished rehabbing to my mom. I don't think this one will need more than a bath and conditioning. It's from 1996 and isn't stiff at all like the two late 80s ones I've had were. I'm still working on a sad late 80s some kind of tan colored one. It's super dry and just ugh. It had a hard life. Anyway I'm sure I'll carry the black one I just got but I may just admire the tan one because it kinda looks like Indiana Jones dragged it through the temple of doom. LOL
