Your bag is beautiful! It doesn't look like it will need to be dunked at all. Maybe a coat or two of Leather CPR, if anything. Sometimes when I dunk my bags the leather isn't as soft as it was before the bath even after multiple coats of conditioning. If they don't need a dunk, I don't do it. I really like the soft leather.
If you want to wipe down, I would use vinegar but I don't think you'll need to. CPR acts as a cleaner as well as a moisturizer.
You will find many of us here have our own “Special Sauce”. In addition to what has been recommended, I have also safely used what I call my go to wipe down solution: About 1/2 tbsp Lexol Leather Cleaner in about 3-4 cups of water (I have this mini bucket I fill halfway). If there was something yucky, I follow that up with a wipe down of plain water.![]()
I love your bags! So much! The three amigos...the black has not been dunked yet, it's in great condition on the outside but the lining is filthy.
Couldn't get the handles as clean as I would like but am ok with it.
Love the shopper...I swear it got bigger after dunking. Did have the straps standing up nicely but overnight they dropped..no worries.
Got Renapur to do yet.View attachment 4733702 View attachment 4733703 View attachment 4733704 View attachment 4733705
Oh, what a shame! How big is the stain?I have one I'm going to have to paint. Shame, too. It's a pool blue Willis with nickel hardware.
There are never any last words....I was only goinf to get a Janice to try a rehab in sept last year....its about 26 bags on now.I love your bags! So much!
Crazy what being on this forum does......it makes us NEED a bag that previously, never even knew existedSo now I’m on the hunt for a Stewardess, AND an Ergo Tote!! Then, I’ll be done! ( famous last words!)
I am curious what pool blue looks like. A lighter navy or more of an aqua?I have one I'm going to have to paint. Shame, too. It's a pool blue Willis with nickel hardware.
We never got an official name for the color but the color I've been referring to as pool is this one, made in 2005.I am curious what pool blue looks like. A lighter navy or more of an aqua?

Congrats! I hope you didn't smack your head too hard on your tumble down the rabbit hole of vintage Coach. I sure did. 50+ bags later and I'm still shopping. Thanks everyone! I received my bag and it is in such amazing condition!! It’s so clean, and apart from some really minor rubbing by the one buckle, it looks hardly used! I’m so happy with it!! I’ll probably use the leather CPR just for a light cleaning and conditioning, since my nurse brain can never turn off the germ thoughtsIts so thick and squishy, and my bag is from 2011, so I can’t imagine the thicker vintage leather!!! I have been bitten by the bug for sure. I actually have two old bags of my own, and am going to dig them out to see what they are, and what condition they’re in! Thanks for all the help!
They're so cute when they're new, aren't they?? "Just one more and I'm done!" Sure you are. There are never any last words....I was only goinf to get a Janice to try a rehab in sept last year....its about 26 bags on now.
I have a Sonoma bucket in the rehab pile - I want to try to dye it a darker color some time; my first try at dying it was a total fail. A Basic Bag is hidden behind some of my other vintage Coach bags - I’ll never use it because of a lot of torn piping and some dry rot damage, but it’s my only glue-in registration number, so I won’t get rid of it either! 3 fails are usable, just stained, wrinkly, or with torn piping that I stabilized with glue & paint (but looks not so good); I use them as my ‘knock around bags’ that I don’t have to worry about. Those three are my red legacy hobo zip (black ink on back), taupe City (wrinkly flap), and black Stewardess (torn piping where the flap folds). So, what happens to rehab fails? Back of closet, donate, sell?
Yup been there, said that. I will admit I have done a good job stopping at 17 vintage bags. I am waiting on one to arrive this week but it is an exact replacement of one that just never wowed me and I will for sure donate it off. But I have been getting that familiar feeling of wanting "just one more" of a bag I already have in a different color. They're so cute when they're new, aren't they?? "Just one more and I'm done!" Sure you are.![]()
I think dyeing pebbled leather might be easier. What color is the bucket to begin with? I refreshed the color of a Sonoma bucket with RIT dye. I didn't like the faded look so just used the same color to make it more vibrant.I have a Sonoma bucket in the rehab pile - I want to try to dye it a darker color some time; my first try at dying it was a total fail. It was originally a light tan color! I think I didn’t prepare it enough. I might have to try sanding it; the original light color is being super stubborn to get off. Once I finish the 3 bags I’m waiting on, which should be easy rehabs, I’ll try going at it again. I’d love to get it a dark oxblood color.I think dyeing pebbled leather might be easier.
