There is part of me that would like to take this on, it would be way out of my rehab comfort zone, but there is another that thinks it would crumble with a touch https://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Vintage-Brown-Leather-Turnlock-Brass-Crossbody-Shoulder-Bag-Purse/324152634115?_trkparms=aid=111001&algo=REC.SEED&ao=1&asc=225086&meid=2abc26a1aa594a4db44337720a1b9873&pid=100667&rk=2&rkt=8&mehot=none&sd=254507017891&itm=324152634115&pmt=0&noa=1&pg=2334524&brand=Coach&_trksid=p2334524.c100667.m2042

How would even start this? CPR it back to life, then dunk and CPR again?
I have this on my watch list! I'd get it if it was under $20 shipped. I don't mind the split piping - I find corners are a little easier to deal with, it's the flap bends that I hate - but I would be worried about the condition of the leather. It's hard to tell with just pictures, but I don't think it would crumble. The piping definitely needs help before a dunk. I would CPR first until the leather feels okay then dunk and condition. I think the strap is a lost cause!

I did look at this but thought it too much for me...am still looking.
This the large?
I think so. To show the depths of my boredom, I watch a youtube of a guy fixing this nasty Chanel shoe last night and it is giving me bad thoughts about taking on a disaster lol. I am still finishing the conditioning process on the Sherbourne and have a red Regina to start. Plus at some point I may get to go back to work...although I am not even allowed to go to the dentist.

Ive got two Legacy ergos and one ergo shopper plus a sort of red coloured court on their way...I really cant get anymore.
I do want a large plaza and might have to settle for a black one at some stage.
Am wanting a Balenciaga so might have to restrain myself on buying coach to get it.

Yeah...It would send me back just over NZ$100 with shipping and taxes and thats too much for something that might not be successful

Is it bad Im getting more tempted by this as I talk to you all about reasons for not getting it...Im going mad...back to work on friday.

edit
And theres the reason why Im really not getting it other than condition...Wont send to New Zealand

I think the bag is too far gone to revive. Piping split. Years of oil and dirt ground in. Even after rehab it will look beaten and distressed, a look favored by some - but not by me.

If I were up for a challenge and could get it for $20 shipped, I would start with a dunk. I doubt it will crumble. I don't think putting CPR on top of the existing oil and dirt would help much. I'd be somewhat worried about the knotted strap.

WARNING: This is a ranting post.

I bought a MUCH desired (by me) and expensive vintage bag that, as shown in its auction photos, was a beautiful, rich, mahogany color (yep, wait for it). NO mention/NO photos of any wear, tear, scratches, scuffs, color fade or loss. I was so excited when I opened the package and found the bag to be just as "gorgeous" as shown in the auction photos.:heart:

So, I dunk it.
Lo and behold.......that deep mahogany color starts coming off the bag and onto my hands. And into the water.:amazed:
WTH.
I contact the seller to ask about any touch up with painting/polish??? Yep. It was touched up. Nope. That wasn't disclosed anywhere in the auction information. Neither was the wear, scratches, scuffs, color fade/loss that are now very obvious.:annoyed:

I am SO disappointed.
I was offered a small discount to keep the bag or a full refund to return it.
I will return it.

RANT over.

Thanks for "listening".

Thats really disappointing...especially if the colour was what you wanted and then you do what all of us do which is dunk to clean and make it more lovely....to find its all false.

Thanks for being empathetic and commiserating with me. I really appreciate it.
It's also from one of the hardest hit Covid-19 areas of our country. I'm being extra cautious these days. The bag wasn't even completely submerged or soaking wet when the color started coming off onto my hands.

Thanks, would you mind posting any pix you might have

Here is the most recent bag rehab. The earlier duffle is in the closet in the room where my son is working from (MY) home. (The food is better here)

I am obsessed with this color. It was not in bad shape to start--some water marks and minor stains that the dunking took out. Also filed out some ink marks on the inside. (saw that in this thread--worked perfectly) This bag is pre-number but not pre-creed. No issues with the rehabIMG_5392.JPG

I took a chance on a Berkeley Multifunction Purse that was under $20 on eBay because I really wanted a wallet that matched my Berkeley Saddle. I’m amazed how much of the nap came up after a bath and a good brushing!

Now I want to try brushing my Berkeley Saddle more to get more of the nap up on the bottom! I used both a regular suede brush and a honeycomb silicone nubuck brush (that I bought to use on DH’s shoes), and I think that nubuck brush really helped get the really worn parts back up.
