Sherbourne update. This morning parts were very wet and parts were scarily dry. I probably should have spot conditioned and then did the whole bag tonight, but I freaked and did the whole bag this morning. I had been happy the handle looked so clean last night, but it was very dry today and after CPR was back to looking blackish. Hoping once the CPR settles in it will look lighter again. When I change the towels tonight I will spot condition the drier parts.

I also finishing up my Winnie and Derby rehabs. Three at once is crazy, but I will have time, the governor just extended our stay at home until June 4 which will make 3 months since we have seen real freedom. Meanwhile it is looking like I might still be able to take my last week of July Disney trip.

You can add acrylic medium and gloss, like this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Liquitex-Gloss-Acrylic-Medium-Varnish/dp/B000IXQAJY

You may also be using too much paint in your conditioner mix. If you only use a little, it doesn't affect the sheen too much.
Sometimes I'll mix craft paint with shiny fabric paint.
Thanks, @whateve. I was using quite a bit of paint in the conditioner, now that you mention that. I have a some pretty dark spots that I am trying to cover and the thinness I get when I have mostly conditioner and only a little paint is making it hard to layer evenly without disturbing the dry paint. I will adjust the mixture a little bit. I will look over the links you posted if I just cannot get both the sheen and coverage I need.

Catching up here.
I am now on my second dunk rehab of a british tan bag with “made in the United States” at the bottom of the creed not in the paragraph and, like my first such rehab, the bag which didn’t feel particularly dry before hand has now become stale taffy-like. It is 24 hours since dunk, it is still fairly damp and just got its first CPR application. My question is, is this a quirk of bags of that era when dunked? Something BT bags in general do? I have dunked 2 NYC tabac bags and not had this so it can’t be age. I am just concerned what might happen to my 1996 Sherbourne in BT if I dunk her and this is what BT bags do.
I have a "made in the United States" BT Plaza Large that while distressed, did not rehab as well as my other BT, now that I think of it, are NYC or after 1993. In fact, my NYC Letter Brief (very distressed condition, pre-rehab) and Shoulder Sac, are smooshy, post rehab. So it is not all BT. My BT Oliver is "made in the United States" but never got dunked; it was in virtually unused condition when I got it a few years ago and is just lovely. My 95/96 BT Winnie and Bancroft have lovely leather. So it does make me suspicious for dye lots in the "made in the United States" time frame.
On a side note, I have been wanting to pull out that BT Plaza and see if another app or two of CPR and then and app of Renapur help it out. Will keep you posted. And I have a beat up "made in the USA" Buckle Tote bag in my rehab pile too!

Now that you mention it, my black Station is a made in the United States bag and it has had the stiffest, dryest leather of all my bags after dunked. The second time was better because of all the conditioner I had already applied. It's finally looking and feeling better.
You know, my black Plaza Large, "made in United States" while in good condition, had subtle, universal fading. I dunked it, used Leather Therapy, O Oil, and Blackrock, none of which enhanced the color. I ended up using Saphir recolorant. I was not using CPR or Renapur at that time.
Now I will be taking more careful notes regarding "made in United States" bags.

Fortunately it is black, I think touch up the whole bag with Saphir black colorant will make the bag great again.
As mentioned above, I touched up my black Plaza Large. That stuff was worth every penny imo.

Well i finally got to do the Taft today...all I can say is S$#t...my hands are a lovely shade of blue. Ink...blasted Ink.

What do you do?
Its been washed and rinsed about 4 times.
I have lots of sacrificial towels but what happens when you want to condition?
Does it continue to come off in your hands....make the conditioner blue?

I am annoyed at the Sherbourne’s handle. It was dark and sticky feeling. It washed up beautifully and the next morning was a nice BT color...but it had gone sandpaper dry. I gave the whole bag (which felt drier as more dampness faded) two coats of CPR that it drank up several hours apart. The handle now looks dark and dirty again. The turnlock flap, also filthy, came up much cleaner and, though also dry the next day, didn’t redarken like the handle did after CPR.

I have a mocha Marketing Tote that has what I call *tacky* straps. From what I guess is the combo of age and hand oils and lack of cleaning conditioning through the years. And then I unthinkingly used Obenauf’s Oil on the entire bag. Anywho . . .
It makes me wonder if you have that combo going on, lending it a dirty appearance.
My plan it to order Leather Degreaser and see if does anything for handles, straps.
