I have a mocha Marketing Tote that has what I call *tacky* straps. From what I guess is the combo of age and hand oils and lack of cleaning conditioning through the years. And then I unthinkingly used Obenauf’s Oil on the entire bag. Anywho . . .
It makes me wonder if you have that combo going on, lending it a dirty appearance.
My plan it to order Leather Degreaser and see if does anything for handles, straps.
What kind of leather degreaser do you use? I'm waiting for a rather beat up looking station bag that looks like it might need it.

I would be curious to see what happens if you degrease yours. I am hoping mine looks better as things progress. I can’t even plan to canniblize a Willis for a better handle as I can’t get any of the rings un screwed.

Valv used a product, called Leather Master Leather Degreaser. That’s what I plan on buying. Will def post when I do.
Eta Now I just recalled not too long ago there was other handle “ hand oil” removal talk and there was another product. It is discussed regarding vachetta. Will look for the thread later!

Hey all,
Can anyone give me ACCURATE measurements to the Coach Legacy Small flap 9965 ? I have seen people list it as 7x7, 7x8, 8x6, 7x6
I'm not sure if the size really did vary or if people are not adept with a measuring tape....

Thank you!

It depends on which parts of the bag they're measuring (if they are even actually measuring it vs. copying measurements from another seller's listing).

Measuring the opening across the top under the flap open will give a shorter length than measuring across the bottom on the outside. Measuring the height from the bottom edge to the opening with the flap open, will give a shorter height than measuring from the bottom edge to the top with the flap closed.

Coach catalog measurements are 8-1/4" x 8" x 4-1/4"

I thought it was squashed rectangular, but it sounds like it is a trapezoid. I'd rather go off the "official" measurements and figured some lovely soul had them on here.
Thanks :)

I am annoyed at the Sherbourne’s handle. It was dark and sticky feeling. It washed up beautifully and the next morning was a nice BT color...but it had gone sandpaper dry. I gave the whole bag (which felt drier as more dampness faded) two coats of CPR that it drank up several hours apart. The handle now looks dark and dirty again. The turnlock flap, also filthy, came up much cleaner and, though also dry the next day, didn’t redarken like the handle did after CPR.

I have had this happen. I think what happened is that someone tried too aggressively to clean the handle and removed the top layer of the leather. If this happens, conditioner just keeps soaking in and it looks darker than the rest. I think your best bet is to paint it. The paint will create a smooth surface that will no longer absorb everything.

I do have BT paint from a previous rehab. I want to see what it looks like in sunlight outside first and so far it has rained and today was cloudy and 48 in May. Brrrrr.

I am sure that this has been discussed before but does anyone know the correct size for the beaded-ball chains that are most commonly used on vintage coach bags? You know the chains used to attach hangtags to vintage willis and city and court bags, etc.?

I am rehabbing a bag that was missing the hangtag. I have suitable tag but the chain is a little short on this bag. I would like to order a length of beaded-ball chain and connectors but I don't know the correct size. Thanks!

And about 4 inches long generally. Sorry for the two replies, I cannot edit a post on my cell phone for some reason.
