Mail day and got these 2 today. @katev the Rambler's Legacy has no shoe polish, just aged patina mixed with dry leather color. Thanks goodness.
@Narnanz , the BC swing has beautiful patina, the bag leather is soft and supple, but straps are very dry. (Thus the cracked leather on strap). I will condition it for several days before dunk it. Thanks for the great find.

Hi all:

Happy Monday!

Was cleaning out my closets and discovered this gem among my pile of long forgotten STUFF. As you can see from the pictures, the leather is dry ... May I ask the experts here what do I need/should do to give this bag another extended life? Does it require some color or maybe some condition (moisturize) will do? I looked through my DH's shoe kit and found these stuff (last pic) - can I use any of these? ALL advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, stay well and stay safe.
Cheers

I had one of these. You can use the Blackrock on it.

First I would wipe it down all over with a soft damp (not wet) cloth to remove surface dust. When dry, lightly apply Blackrock following the directions on the label. When dry, buff with soft dry cloth or horsehair brush. It doesn't seem to need color to me and the Blackrock should even it out and perk it up nicely.

That's great news!

I finally washed my Loden legacy small zip and Currant Willis. Loden looks pretty much the same as it came in very good condition. The bath water didn't run dirty at all. I just feel better knowing it is clean I can use it soon! Currant Willis OTOH came with active mold with spores and all. I had to ask my DH to dry brush and vacuum outside the house as I'm allergic to mold.

I am the one to blame. I used toothpaste on hardwares with success and shared the tips here. Sorry. I used on brass turnlocks and zippers, then rinse it off with running tab water and toothbrush very well, it didn't go into the water for bag soaking, that's probably why I never noticed any problems. Thanks for sharing this.
ETA: actually just remembered I used straight toothpaste on leather once, trying to remove a tough stain mark, it didn't work, but didn't left behind chalky residues either.
I think I remember reading something about titanium dioxide being the culprit. It's most commonly found in whitening type toothpaste and is also what gives you a white cast from sunscreen with a mineral filter. I will definitely rethink my toothpaste choices!
ETA: By the way, I woke up to my Night Fury still perfectly black, so I remain hopeful.

Lexol doesn't get much love here, but I've used it for years without problems. They seem to have changed their formula though. Pour a bit of it out into some container. If it's the thicker milky lotion type that smells of artificial almonds, run for the hills as this likes to leave a white cast. If it's the very thin, almost colorless transparent type, shake the bottle very well and use liberally, that one works great.
I'm not sure when the change of formula occurred but I'm still mad at it.

So after my usual routine kitchen sink wash of 20 minutes in warm water and 1/2 ounce of Lexol Cleaner and a light toothbrush scrub, 20 minutes warm water rinse with a cup of vinegar, 3-4 apps of CPR with buffing in between, a little polish up of the hardware with a generic jewelry cloth and an app of Renapur (sparingly applied and let it sit overnight before buffing), here it is!!!

It stands nicely on it's own, thanks to a small can of tomato paste in the bottom while it was drying. The CPR brought back the color on the piping. I was amazed, I still am. And the Renapur just kicked it up a notch and really helped the strap. I had decided recently since I was on my dregs of Blackrock to order Renapur since it appeared to give others great results. Thanks to those who did share results, I am not disappointed. It's felt like the benefits of Blackrock kicked up a bit, with no tackiness. The leather is actually smooshy!
In fact, so many of my bags need a little spiff up and conditioning from regular use, I definitely plan to see what Renapur does for them.
How pretty is this? I love it and love the strap configuration and the security of actually having to unbuckle it. What are the dimensions of this gem?

Ty, I was crazy happy to find it in BT, with no large stains. Wear, I can handle. And it was stamped NYC, my ongoing fascination. Empty about, 13 1/2” x 9 1/2” x 3” (sorry, not metric here!). So full, after being in use, could accommodate a scooch more. The later model had a turn lock. Good for work when I want to carry a few more items. Well, lol that was my intention before my wfh gig.

Thanks! I suggest propping her up next to your wfh desk, she'll give you a boost anyway.

Quoting my own post to update you all on the Chester saga: 28 hours into drying, after a second coat of CPR, the toothpaste reared its ugly head again, albeit to a lesser degree. True to my word, I chucked her in the washing machine. Please cross as many fingers and toes as you can spare.

I am now on my second dunk rehab of a british tan bag with “made in the United States” at the bottom of the creed not in the paragraph and, like my first such rehab, the bag which didn’t feel particularly dry before hand has now become stale taffy-like. It is 24 hours since dunk, it is still fairly damp and just got its first CPR application. My question is, is this a quirk of bags of that era when dunked? Something BT bags in general do? I have dunked 2 NYC tabac bags and not had this so it can’t be age. I am just concerned what might happen to my 1996 Sherbourne in BT if I dunk her and this is what BT bags do.
