Both the bag and I are ok, but last night I stepped over the laundry basket I had my drying Crosby on to close a window, but didn’t clear the basket and stepped on its handle. This, unbeknownst to me, launched the purse off. So when I stepped back over, I stepped on the bag, making me stumble again and almost fall. Back to steady on my feet, I checked the bag and no harm seemed to have been done from its flight or crushing.

This is why I love vintage coach so much... you can do stuff like this and do no damage. Glad you’re ok too!

My oldest bag is drying now and had two coats of CPR. She is already looking so much better. But...
Cautionary tale: Be careful of these metal tags. I thought I was extremely careful but apparently I was not. I'm a little bummed as this is my first and only metal tag bag, but I don't know that I could've just left her alone looking so stiff and squished. But you can see the before and after of the tag.

That's a shame, but you can't carry a bag that is dirty and beat up, so you had to try and it is looking great. I wonder if it would help to put a protective coating like clear nail polish on the tag now to prevent it from pealing further?

Forgive me if this has been asked before but what is a good brand and start color of paint to match british tan? I realize british tan can be all colors of faded but what color is a good color to start with? When using it, do you apply it only to the spots that need it, or do you paint the whole bag to get the best overall most even application so it doesn't look obviously spotty? Do you apply paint before or after Blackrocks?

Wow, talk about slippery slope! Glad you're OK!

I've used Wood N Stuff Leather Refinish Color Restorer in British Tan. It was a perfect match for my Multi Zip in British Tan. I only applied it (before Blackrocks) to the spot that needed to be covered, and I mixed it with Leather CPR first. You can order a sample here: https://www.wood-n-stuff.com/leatheraid.html.

Do you find that 1oz goes a long way or does it get used up pretty quickly? Also, does it work to lighten up dark spots or do you mainly use it to darken up lighter spots?

The 1oz goes a long way! I used it on my Multi Zip to lighten up a dark spot, and I also used it on the piping of 2 vintage Dooney's (to lighten and darken different spots). I still have most of the bottle left.

OK great! So what do you do if it is just off color slighty? Is there a trick to getting it slightly lighter or darker depending on the fade of the bag?

How are the cuts in the side piping where the strap hooks onto...did they survive?

Layers, I think, are the key! Thin the paint with a lot of CPR then cover the spots. Make sure the color matches the surrounding area! You could also just do the whole bag, or the whole section. I think I used a q-tip to apply it on the spot and a bit of the surrounding area. Let it dry, then add another layer it the spot is still showing through. Repeat as neccessary.

Awesome. Thanks I ordered a sample.

Actually they're not as bad as they appeared in the photos. That one side is missing it's metal grommet but I think I can replace that. A bit of leather cement should shore up the small tears. There isn't really piping per se. Let me see if I can get a good pic.
