Has anyone ever taken apart and resewed piping? I found a cheap bag and realized someone “resewed” the binding, looks like the bag was falling apart at one point. While the bag is structurally sound, the sewing is completely crooked in the back!!! I’m trying to ignore it but it is an eyesore.

I have a bag like that, also a Station. I initially doubted its authenticity because the leather quality just wasn’t there, but the creed was good. I guess not all leather lots were perfect and/or some did not age well.
Forgot to add. I had another mystery Coach bag that was very stiff and the strap hardened and cracked after dunk. I just said “bad leather” and stuffed it in the back of the closet. About six months later I was going through my stuff and took it out - it is soft now. Even the cracked strap is totally bendable again.

Tell us the brand. Some brands react better than others to rehabbing. And also tell us what the lining is made of. Some brands like Fendi, Gucci, and Dooney sometimes used linings that disintegrated over time.

Good to know! It's a vintage Prada. I hope it is salvageable! But I will grab more photos when it's here (I rolled the dice on it cause it was very cheap).

Omg! Renapur is hands down a miracle worker! I bought it last week after the big discussion here. I had purchased a very sad Willis for $10. It was beat up, the piping looked like it might have been worn through and it had a plastic replacement strap-things I didn’t care about since I only wanted it’s hardware. Well...after a bath, 3 coats of CPR, removal and polish if all hardware, and a final magical coat of Renapur I now have a beautiful and usable Willis! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the amazing rehabbers here who always share their photos and recommendations. :)

Wow! I need to get my hands on some Renapur now for sure! Great job, it looks great!

I know...wondering if we can create a thread called Coach Coffee House or something.. pictures of our rehabbed bags out for coffee or tea.
Why not?? That sounds like a great thread idea. Except my pictures would mostly be vintage coach with pints of beer instead of coffee. I also really enjoy the scenery in people's photos in addition to the bags and brews.

Guys my Winnie is already here! It's in great shape but really needs a dunk, do you agree? Because it's a dowel bag, it makes me nervous. Do I do anything different dunking a bag with a dowel? Also it smells like smoke. Does that come out with a dunk or would it eventually fade off if i decide not to dunk? I was thinking I might not dunk any more bags but this one might necessitate it. Also any one know what the white spots might be? I figure it would wipe off. 0229201200.jpg 0229201200a.jpg 0229201201a.jpg 0229201200b.jpg

If it were mine I would wipe it down with vinegar and vacuum out the inside. Then I'd dunk as usual (no worries about the dowel). Use vinegar in the bath and the rinse. The smoke smell may be more noticeable for a while as the bag dries, but it should diminish in time. Leave it outside to help air it out.

Thanks so much for the kind words! And yes, it’s feels great. Not sticky at all like when I use Blackrocks. Smells like honey too...which I love. ;)

I ordered some Renapur today and am looking forward to trying it. I have a tiny bit of Skidmore's left, which is definitely beeswax-based, so I'll use that up as well.

I'm thinking Blackrock might have removed some or all of the beeswax from their product (the cost of natural beeswax has been steadily rising). I'm going to toss it out...it's been sitting around too long and I don't like the idea of rubbing petroleum distillates into my fingers.

A bath doesn't always get rid of smoke smell, especially if it is strong. I try to get rid of it before I dunk. I hang the bag outside on my covered deck for a week or so. I spray the inside with Febreze nature. I'll use more Febreze on the exterior during the dunk, making sure it is completely rinsed off.

I would definitely dunk this bag. I've never had problems with dowel bags. The white spots look like scratches to me.
