My coach factory gold chain arrived today so I’m calling my Gramercy 7006 rehab just about finished. There are still some small scratches on the back that I want to try using fabric puff paint on but that’ll be later on. Also, two of the corner dents aren’t completely gone but much improved.

I dunked with dish soap and tepid water for 10 minutes total including gentle scrubbing mainly on the inside and rinse. I stuffed with towels and reshaped and let dry. It took a long time to completely dry, can’t remember... maybe 4 days? Afterwards, I conditioned with a tiny bit of Bick 4 leather conditoner. It actually wasn’t a very involved rehab but it’s much improved and I’m happy.

Some before and after pics:

Thanks to @katev for the chain idea as a replacement- I managed to grab one on sale too:

She mentioned that the hardware is a brushed gold whereas the chain is shiny but I think it still goes together well enough for me!! I can’t wait to use the bag!!

Beautiful job! The chain looks great on it.

Hi everyone! =) Wondering about using a Dremel to polish vintage hardware (so hopefully people who use Dremels see this question). When you use a Dremel to polish hardware, do you get a shiny finish on the hardware, or a brushed gold finish?

(I used fine steel wool on the hardware for only one bag, which resulted in a brushed gold, relatively matte look. If I want the hardware to turn out shiny, is a Dremel suitable?)

I think it looks fantastic (but son't those Italian coach baga take forever to dry?!) I like the gold chain on my Gracie - even though it is not brushed gold, because it is a genuine coach strap and that's feels right to me - and it looks good!

Before you try puff paint on the scratches on the back, consider using a light, shiny conditioner/oil to mask the scratches. It wears off with time but that's okay you can just reapply. I usually use Leather Therapy Restorer and Conditioner, but sometimes Lexol works if the scratches are minor.

I do have Lexol! I’ll try that first before puff paint. Thanks for the tip!

Alright my, is it camel? is it yellow? daypack. Here is the before, and then after the dunk, scrub, and vinegar rinse. It's stuffed to be shaped and hopefully it dries quickly so I can start conditioning. I added the hangtag to show why it's my conflicted bag, the hangtag and parts of it look yellow when it was dry, but wet it is taking on camel. Who knows!

IMO polishing by hand with mothers is the only way to get that mirror shine! I find that even the felt Dremel bits leave marks on the brass.

Give it a try! Here's after and before pics of a black Gramercy Zip 7001 that I rehabbed many years ago. It was pretty scratched up but the Leather Therapy did a good job of masking the flaws. I do use paint when it's necessary but not if it can be avoided.

Yellow!
Sorry! Nerding out over here. It doesn’t take much..... ;)
Lol, thanks. I was hoping it was yellow. It has fading and the sun exposed parts made it look camel/tan color. But the parts covered up are more muted yellow. It's drying at the moment, I'm hoping as it dries and I condition it, it will show truly yellow. The thing was grimy and dirty!

So I've dunked dozens of bags by now, including a very old metal tag Courier, but I think my HG burnt orange Courier needs a bath and I'm absolutely terrified to do it. So far I haven't wrecked a bag but with my luck, this will be the one. It has some kind of coating on it that's coming off in white flakes and I'm thinking it's a waxy conditioner that a previous owner applied to it. I think a dunk in warmer water will help wash away whatever was put on it. Any thoughts?

This is also the reason I've been afraid to try Renapur. It's made with beeswax and now my brain associates this waxy junk on my courier with beeswax conditioner. Others who have used Renapur don't see this, right?

Advice needed! Got this great little shoulder bag on Mercari, but I want to try and flatten the flowers a bit. Some are really puckered from previous use, but I’m not sure how to do it. Thanks in advance!42F8A688-6A45-4D2E-8E7C-90280DC8CD39.jpegB4FE4534-3545-4A48-9D49-FE988DC5FF89.jpeg
