she was beyond rehab, but she’s been put to good use!
I did read her final rights, and said a little prayer and held my breath as I made my first cut. She was in very poor condition and covered in deep cat scratches if that makes you feel any better. That's a Saddlery bag! What have you done?? I feel like there needs to be a proper funeral. Oh my. I’m working on brass snap attachments for patches on the bag in the post above. Practicing setting the snaps in the leather and creating a backing for the patches. So I have this little Chester with what I’m assuming is a burn that did not come up in the bath. View attachment 4645951
Thanks to @houseof999 I have an idea to cover it up. Patches....

I’m leaning towards the flowers but wondering what you all think? I’m planing on attaching with brass snaps on the bag and patch so it can be removed to clean or condition the bag. Think I’ll be using Rexy for my Ritchie with a stain on the front. He doesn’t quite fit right on the burn mark.
Another reason to dislike cats.....I did read her final rights, and said a little prayer and held my breath as I made my first cut. She was in very poor condition and covered in deep cat scratches if that makes you feel any better.![]()
After exhausting every cotton ball in the house and many many more hours rubbing, I tried applying the acetone with a magic eraser and voila! I think it may work. Off to the store today so I can get more acetone and magic erasers to finish it. She still may not survive, but at least I Might. Remember I am a complete novice so none of this can be construed as advice for your project.I got this station bag in a thredup rescue box. I am not sure if I caused this discoloration. I washed it in woolite and applied Marten’s miracle balm before it dried, I used a hair drier to make it easier to wipe it off. It almost looks like a prior owner may have applied shoe polish, or my use of the hair drier may have removed some of the color unevenly. I obviously have no Idea what I am doing. The darker picture was when it was still wet.

I am loving your briefcase. It reminds me of my college professors. How did you address the defect on the back?It could be shoe polish. My suggestion is to keep scrubbing and washing it until you get most of it off and then condition and finish it off with an application of Black Rocks to even out the flaws.
Other TPFers may have suggestions about ways to remove the shoe polish.
I am not familiar with the Martin's Balm that you used. I usually wash with Dawn Dish Soap and I use Leather CPR to condition and Black Rocks to finish the surface.
Here is a link for a Coach Briefcase that I rehabbed that had been treated with multiple applications of shoe polish - it was challenging but it came out okay in the end. Good luck!

It looks like the magic eraser is really picking up a lot. I'm curious to see how it comes out, and I admire your determination! After exhausting every cotton ball in the house and many many more hours rubbing, I tried applying the acetone with a magic eraser and voila!
