I think because they would just look faded. Usually burnishing makes the color darker on the edges and lighter in the middle. It works especially well for browns but works for some other colors. That's kind of what I concluded. Interesting, I wonder why? Thanks!
Thanks for that. It makes sense!I think because they would just look faded. Usually burnishing makes the color darker on the edges and lighter in the middle. It works especially well for browns but works for some other colors.
I don’t think it’s worth it to bother. A rare vintage bag in this condition - yes. But this is a newer bag, and I am sure you can find something comparable for under $30 on EBay. Yes, more expensive, but just the cleaning supplies for this one will run you $20 or so. Also, this kind of leather doesn’t lend itself well to restoring.
I would stay away. I don't think this is fixable. That particular sparkle leather is very delicate.
Thanks so much!I think those two styles are the same size, about 10-1/2" x 9-1/2" x 4-1/2". What may be different are the colors available, the type of leather, or the finish on the leather.
Here's the 11285. Its Wayback description says "Nappa" leather and its creed may say "individually burnished," or not.

Has anyone rehabbed a Legacy Thompson bag? I have a new-to-me Thompson Julia 11376 that is gorgeous but stained and dirty and the legacy stripe lining is spotted and dingy. The bag is also a bit squashed and misshapen.
I could just surface clean it and see how it turns out, but I honestly think it needs to be dunked. I don't know if it was made of vachetta leather because the creed just says "cowhide".
I am open to suggestions, thanks!

Wow! You did a great job! I love this hot pink color!Hi everyone! Just wanted to share a rehab I did on a newer bag, a mff Colette carry all in pink ruby. I bought it from Goodwill for $8. It was in rough shape. An ink mark, paint splatter, filthy handles and mystery sticky stuff inside. Shoulder strap missing.

I did not dunk as I wasn't sure how this newer bag would hold up. First I just wiped it down with a microfiber cloth and plain water to get as much off easily as possible. Then used leather cleaner, then vinegar. Had to resort to drastic measures to get most of the dirt off the handles- magic eraser. The paint splatter was very stubborn. Magic eraser got some off, but had to use nail polish remover and a q-tip for the rest. Some of the ink stain is still there. I pulled out the lining and just stuck it under the faucet and scrubbed off the sticky stuff.
Since this was an $8 mff bag I was more aggressive than I would normally be, and it worked out fine. This will be a good beater summertime bag. Thanks for reading a long post!
I don't think those are that bad. Blackrocks will definitely improve their appearance. In my experience, the only marks that don't improve are those where the color is gone.Dear Rehabbers,
I am writing to get your opinion about the next step in this bag rehab. It is a black swinger bag that I had authenticated in the "authenticate this." The bag was in a real state. So I gave it a bath, I’ve used leather CPR and leather therapy. I believe that it has taken as much as it can in terms of the conditioner. It is nice and clean and looks much better than it did. But there are abrasions and scratches that have not improved. Before Blackrocking it, I wanted to reach out and see if any of you have had experience with restoring a surface with abrasions (they are mostly seen in raking light). I’d like to be able to use this as a daily-type bag for errand running so it doesn’t have to be perfect. I love the size, shape, weight. and strap drop. But I would like it to be relatively presentable.
Any insights you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!View attachment 4641616View attachment 4641617View attachment 4641618View attachment 4641619View attachment 4641620
