Need some advice... do you think the “dots” on this bag would come out with a bath and CPR? I’ve been looking for one of these for a while now but can’t decide if the dots would bother me i I can’t get them out.. what do you think?

I was able to remove some dark spots left by mould (?) in a BT pocket purse so I’m tempted to try... but I’d appreciate any advice!

Coach Court before and after. I think it was in pretty good shape before but went ahead with a bath and leather CPR. Does anyone know what color this is? It was listed as taupe. Thanks!

It looks beautiful!

It might be Tabac, Mocha, Mahogany or Taupe, depending on what year it was made. There was a Taupe color, but only in certain years. What year was your Court Bag made? (If you don't know how to find out, take a picture of the creed and we can probably tell you).

The dots bother me. They don't look like mold spots to me. The rest of the bag looks almost perfect...too perfect? I'm a little leery of that because it sometimes means dyeing or recoloring, or shoe polish.

I am curious about your opinions- would this bag require acrylic paint on the edges? I remember reading somewhere here that the lighter colors are not dyed through but layered on top, so rehabbing them is different than the darker colors (aniline)?

I don't think this bag would do well in rehab unless you redyed quite a bit of it. It is a Soho, so equivalent to a lightweight, with thinner leather. I think there is too much fading for just paint.

How long do you wait between coats of CPR? The bags I am dunking and condishing are drying from a dunk what I would guess is pretty fast, like feeling dry to the touch in about 12 to 14 hours. I put a coat of CPR on one this morning and I wonder how long I should wait before applying another.

Also, do you notice much difference in how the leather takes the CPR if you apply it once the bag is dry to the touch versus when it is the right time to apply versus when it is still too damp?
I usually wait at least 12 hours.

Thanks Catbird9. Yes actually the more I look at the pictures the more the dots bother me. And if they show up so clearly in the pic then they could be very noticeable IRL. So I think I’ll just keep looking... thanks!!

Here are the two basic bags I got authenticated last week, after baths and conditioning. Does anyone know what colors they are? The darker one has the glued-in tag and the lighter one has the eight digit number with no dash.

I thought I'd share my experience getting a replacement hangtag, since I imagine some folks out there are in need of them. I had read online that you can request a brass or silver metal replacement tag from Coach, and I have done that successfully by emailing Coach. They sent me a hangtag very quickly, for free. I had also read that it's possible to drop by a Coach store and ask for a hangtag, and that they will do their best to help you by offering whatever orphaned tags they have in the back. I was a bit leery of this method, being an introvert, but I finally decided to give it a go as I was hoping for a leather tag this time.

I went by a Coach outlet store at a large outlet mall (Katy Mills Mall, for those of you in the Houston area). I wasn't sure that an outlet store would allow this, but I figured I'd try. The store was pretty empty and it was a quiet evening, so I went on ahead as I hoped I would not be bothering the staff. I was carrying the bag in question--my rehabbed vintage brown NYC Stewardess bag--and launched into the whole thing about free tags, etc. At first, the person I spoke to (turned out to be a manager) was not sure what I was asking about--she stated that they sold tags, so I might have to purchase one--but after a bit of discussion, she offered to have someone bring out their box of orphaned tags and let me pick one.

A very helpful young woman brought me the box and we went through it, looking for a nice match. She was very chatty and we discussed the greatness of vintage Coach bags. After a few minutes I selected a tag that was a good match for the color (I think it is tabac, she said it might be mahogany). I know it's not the original vintage type tag and the metal grommet is silver and not brass, but it looks pretty nice! She even gave me a bit of chain to attach it. The box held quite a few tags of different colors and styles, mostly black and brown.

So I can report that my attempt to replace the hangtag on my vintage bag was a success. If you need a tag and don't want the brass or silver one Coach will send you (they are really shiny and nice, but heavy), give a brick and mortar store a try. Even an outlet may have some tags to pick from. It may take a little explanation, but in the end it's worth it.

Anyway, I may share some photos of the rehabbed bag, it's not as amazing as the rehabs you all share here, but it is much improved over its sad state when I bought it. And I do enjoy carrying it.

That's awesome! I am glad that you were able to find a decent match! I called the outlet where I live and was told they didn't have any loose hangtags and also that their stamping machine was broke. Then I called the one boutique store that we have and was told that exact same thing. I try my absolute hardest to avoid malls so it's not likely I will be in one any time soon but if I do ever have to go to one I'll try to remember to take a vintage that needs a tag.

Just finished rehab the new to me Cash era hobo bag. She was arrived in good condition. Still I gave her a dunk and followed by conditioning with leather cpr. She has a leather finish repells water and almost no color bleeding during the dunk. It is interesting the craftsmanship in the 70s might not pass today's quality control standards. For example, the hand forged dog leash clasp is stamped "Germany", but is deformed a bit at the end, the adjustable strap is hold in place by a row of tiny metal teeth biting into the leather, and left several rows of bitting marks into the leather from past use. The strap end design looks raw and not lined up completely. Still she is beautiful and perfectly imperfect.

I was able to get a replacement brass color tag from Coach several years ago, they mailed it to me from the States, I am in Canada. Unfortunately Coach stopped sending replacement tag to Canada now. Every now and then I'll buy a new bag from the Coach boutique store here, and I will ask for a spare replacement tag even a dust bag for my other vintage bags. As long as the sales associate get the business from you, he or she usually is willing to help.
