This is the one I just recently purchased too. Don't dunk it! Vachetta is a higher maintenance leather. I used Leather CPR on mine because I had no real marks on the bag, it just needed some moisturizer because it felt a little dry. And mine was already sun tanned, so I didn't need to worry about it darkening. It didn't spot or make the patina uneven.Thank you very much. I'll see how it looks when it arrives and decide then. Hopefully it is in decent shape as the listing describes. You all are so helpful.
I nodded along to your comment as I have been reading through this vachetta business and realized *holy cow I'm glad I don't have a vachetta bag!* For my lifestyle, I can't carry a bag where I have to worry about water splashes or rain; I'm just too utilitarian with my bags for that to be practical and I'd end up staining or ruining the bag. And that's not fair to a lovely handbag.
Thanks to @redwood66 @coach943 @nursebetty @Busykitty @artax two and @Catbird9 for all the information on how to care for vachetta, and for unknowingly convincing me to make sure to avoid them in the future!
I’m in Ontario and was able to buy leather cpr at Bed Bath and Beyond in store for $20
Even if you never rehab a bag again you still want to regularly condition your bags to keep them in good condition. If you do end up ever having to dunk a bag, it can take several applications of Leather CPR to quench the bag. The only product I've ever used is Leather CPR, so I can't speak for the other options out there, but I will say that I love Leather CPR (and Blackrocks!) and I think that purchasing the CPR is a good investment in the upkeep of your bags - which are also investments if cared for properly. And you never know, you might come across a cheaply priced rare bag that clearly needs a dunk and if you have the CPR on hand you can go for it.Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately we don’t have Bed Bath and Beyond in Quebec (and there is no French equivalent) nor do they ship to Quebec
But if Leather CPR is the recommended product I may have to accept the Amazon cost...
Ugh! My BT Willis has something scribbled in permanent marker inside the flap. Why??? It drives me nuts.Someone might obliterate a serial number if they knew it would be recognized as fake, but in your case, the bag is definitely authentic. There's no logical reason to do that.
People do weird things to handbags. I rehabbed a bag (a United Airlines Stewardess) that had the name "Pat" scrawled in permanent black marker inside the flap. Why would anyone do that???

Pat strikes again?Ugh! My BT Willis has something scribbled in permanent marker inside the flap. Why??? It drives me nuts.
I live in New Zealand , our Bed Bath and Beyond does not carry CPR at all. Amazon sellers dont ship to NZ so Ive had to buy direct from the manufacturers site. I get the large refill and it cost me almost NZ $90 to get. Its the shipping the really hurts. Try the site www.cprcleaningproducts.com ..the shipping might not be as much as you think.Thank you for the suggestion. Okay, so my smooth white leather XL Ergo is 10744 and my black pebbled leather is 11640.Mine is 11285. I didn't know there was an even smaller one! I once bought a 10743 in much better condition but I sold it after trying to make it work for me. I didn't think it was very small. These bags aren't really my style. I am a satchel with crossbody kinda gal. I do love the look of the bags though!
ETA: I think the one @CoachMaven has is a completely different style number.
All 3 of my XL Ergos have different style numbers. I believe because all 3 are different leather types. I can provide them later today if you'd like.
Side note- I never got the notification that you tagged me in this thread! Sorry for the delayed response.
Darn you, Pat! Moved on from the Stewardess life and still couldn't kick the habit of scrawling your name in your handbag. LOLPat strikes again?
I'm interested in your large Ergo tote numbers and leather types. I have had the 11285 and 10743 (both medium size with a medallion on the pocket and legacy stripe lining). The 11285 says nappa leather in the Wayback description only, not on the creed. Both say "individually burnished...glove-tanned cowhide" on the creed.
These details can be important to a rehabber!
So my white one is from 2006 and the other two are from 2007. None say burnished glove tanned cowhide. Here are photos of each one and the respective creed.I'm interested in your large Ergo tote numbers and leather types.
