Hi all! I'm here with an update on my thrifted Made in NYC Stewardess-- I dunked her this evening and that was a bear! I have only dunked a small bag and a wristlet before and the Stewardess got so heavy. But she survived nicely and is drying. Overall the Stewardess was more "smooshed" than dirty. Over Christmas when I didn't have time to rehab I kept her stuffed and did a light conditioning, which helped relax out the worst wrinkles. Here's some post-dunk pics! I'll post full before & afters once it is dry. I left the hardware on; I did not see any verdigris anywhere.

You might have some success evening out the color with a dunk and conditioning, but you'd probably still see slight variations. It's still a beautiful bag, even with the fading.
That article comparing the leather to stained wood makes a lot of sense to me and now I see my faded bags differently. Its just the leather shining through under the clear aniline dye.

Is there anyway to restore colour on a faded red bag? I’m eyeing this listing but I’m worried I won’t be able to fix the colour. I’m going to ask for more pictures to see how it looks in whiter light but the seller is pretty upfront about the colour so I am not holding out much hope that I won’t have to do anything if I do buy it.
I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks!!

Once I bought a bag that looked orange, kind of like this. After the dunk, it turned out red. If the seller never dunked, I think some of the color could come back with a bath.

Katev is right, this pocket purse seems to have the same color that my saddlery bag has, it did turn darker after a dunk.I do think those bags have a more yellow toned red then the janice or patricia, the red there has a blue tone to it.
