So got these to sad sacks off mercari for $22 total! Aaaaand they're NYC! I've wanted a collegiate (the flap and turnlock) and its navy!! I believe the other is called camera bag. Both need a bath and some conditioning.

I just took all the stuffings out. It looks like the bottom flattened out and it's holding it's shape. The corner crease is still there. I don't think I can get it to go away without steam either. Here how it looks now:

It's on the back left corner so that's a good thing.

ETA: I'd stuff your bag fully and let it sit also see if it improves. I've started cutting cardboard boxes to shape to put behind the leather panels and then stuffing the bag. The card board prevents the lumps I was getting when I was jam packing the towels.

Hello katev! Are you able to share more details of the Carlyle you dunked please? Did you dunk as the same as the full grain vintage leather? Thank you!

Well, I decided "what the heck!" and I dunked my new to me cherry red Carlyle. I soaked her in Dawn and water and scrubbed her gently all over with a soft brush, then I rinsed well and let her drain for an extended period before stuffing and shaping the bag. Now I just have to let the days (and days!) of drying commence.

The bath water turned the faintest shade of pink but that's all. It was hardly noticeable except that I was looking for it. There is a persistent rumor that these vintage Italian Coach bags are "delicate" but they really are pretty sturdy!

Yay! Maybe use something to keep it propped open and have a fan blowing towards it? Trying to think of ways to get it drier faster. Lol.

The perm solution smell is from sulphur based products.

Ditto on this experience and label description. Mine is a 500 ml spray bottle.

Side note, A couple years before I found complete info on tPF on dunking and conditioning, I read on the eBay boards about how a woman cleaned her bags and shoes with Lexol cleaner and conditioner. So I started with that. I could not understand the white streaking left on a pair of black Timberland boots and black Patricia’s Legacy. I found out here it was residue from the Lexol conditioner, used on completely wet leather.

I posted a question on Amazon where I ordered the Lexol, all the replies I got indicated the jug I got was defective, no one else noticed any bad smell. So it is on its way back to Amazon warehouse.

Side note, when I read the ingredients of Lexol, one main ingredient is neatfoot oil. neatfoot oil is very controversial in leather care, some people love it, some people hate it, and possible it may damage stitches over time. So I will wait for the bed&bath store to restock their leather cpr.

Hello ladies, I need your expert opinion. TIA

Would be OK to dunk this Sheridan? Won't the red bleed on the liner or the brown on the red....? I am unsure of what to do, but it needs help for sure.

I once gave a bath to a green Glenwood Sheridan that was in very bad shape and it came out fine; see the before and after pictures below:

As long as I will be waiting around for the Carlyle to dry, I decided to give a bath to the forest green Madison Drake Brief bag that I bought last year and have been meaning to rehab.

I always admire your willingness to "boldly go" to the frontiers of rehabbing!
