I am now a big ball of anxiety. I made the mistake of adding some black colouring to the CPR to try and even out the flap on the pocket purse. Big mistake...Huge. It grabbed onto the faded places and went too dark a colour. So I had to try and clean the colour off and ended up cleaning the flap with soapy water again. It looked like a lot came off. Just waiting for it to dry to see how bad it looks.
I think once dry, the color will even out
I've rehabbed several of the Italian Coach bags including the Carlyle. Most of them have just needed surface cleaning but I have dunked a few of them and they came out well, but they need a long time to dry. I don't use a creamy conditioner on them, I use "leather therapy restorer & conditioner" to condition and restore the shine.

Here's a picture of my first Italian Coach bag, the tiny Gracie bag in Beechnut color. I picked it up for only $2 at the Salvation Army Store. It was missing the strap so I use a Coach gold chain strap.

The shiny, pebbled leather is called "Caviar Leather" and it is very fine and difficult to make. These Italian Coach bags were originally made by Coach in imitation of the Hermes Kelly bag.

Here are pics of a recent acquisition, a small Coach bag that was hand-made in Italy in 2000. It is a limited-edition, numbered bag that is made from genuine Lizard with suede pigskin lining. I just surface-cleaned it and used reptile leather conditioner.

I like the Italian coach bags from the mid/late 1990s, they are very well made and they always make me think of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, but it is not a style that appeals to everyone.
The limited edition numbered bag is beautiful.

Thank you Katev, lots of great information, and you did a fantastic job on all your Coach Italian collection. I will need to get some leather therapy conditioner for the Carlyle. As to the relationship between me and my Carlyle, it's not love at first sight, but she may grow on me over time...thanks again.

Lexol might work if you have it available but I prefer the leather therapy for the Italian leather bags - shake it well before applying. It has a little smell but it disappears and much milder than Black Rocks.

It's okay if the Carlyle and you are not compatible - there are some styles and lines and colors of bags that others are wild about that just don't appeal to me!

I wish I could help but I don't own anything of that line and after your discription I daubt I ever will.
You just saved me from a costly purchase, I'm so glad I held of on a red carlyle that I had bin eyeing.
As a fan of the old Italian Madison line, I disagree. The structured bags are beautiful and timeless; I still have no idea why that line did not take off. The leather is high quality, btw, although it’s a different kind from glove tanned.

Actually I just ordered lexol yesterday. Will use that once received. Thanks.

I may have to revise my statement here, the first thing that shot through my head last night night was there going to be like the legacy willis, so thin and stiff and brittle in a sense.
Now I have never seen a wrecked Italien madison tho I have come across some sad legacy willises, I do own one myself , she is not wrecked but I was so sadly disapointed when she came.
Now that my brain is funktioning a little better, I alway's thought the closest thing in a rough sense to the madisons where the dakota and sheridan line wich I like a lot, so please sing the praises of the madisons to me. Oh and I'm not the Audrey Hepurn type more Kathrine Hepurn with an extra twenty pounds.

Has anyone here ever worked with natural vachetta before? I scored a BEAUTIFUL Ergo XL tote in natural vachetta for a ridiculously low price. Whomever owned it before me took immaculate care of it in terms of the even honey coloring the patina has become and it is super clean- no dirty black handles. But it is on the dry side and is in need of moisturizing. I know not all conditioners and leather moisturizers can be used on vachetta. I was hoping someone here might have a suggestion for how to get it less dry?

I love the vachetta leather and I would not hesitate to use Leather CPR on it, but when I am uncertain I often reach for the leather therapy & restorer.

Red bags in general can be a bit tricky to rehab. I have one Italian red Madison Bristol Dome bag and the rehab was a bit disappointing because it had some color loss on the corners.

I usually try to find rehab projects at a low price in case they are problematic, and of course the darker colors are usually easier. The Madison Beechnut is a beautiful color and pretty easy to rehab.

I once deviated from my "safety rules" to buy an Italian Madison Copley bag and wallet in a light color called "butter" and they rehabbed pretty good, but they were dirty and of course light colors show the dirt. I had to dunk them and they recovered well from the bath - but took forever to dry! See the link below. They still look a little dirty to me an and I wish that I could figure out a way to lighten the thread of the stitching on the bag and wallet - without damaging the leather - any ideas?

I have CPR and use it on pretty much everything else, but I was doing some of my own research, both here on the forums and online, and I am seeing a lot of mixed reviews- such as do nothing, or only use this product, no- don't use that product, use this instead! So I am confused....lol!

That's it! And I know what you mean, I am sort of a "Mad Chemist" with all my lotions and leather care products.

In general, I use Leather CPR for most of my leather bags and rehabs, I find that it is a good general purpose conditioner that works well in many situations, including the Coach glove-tanned leather bags.

I also keep Lexol Cleaner Wipes and Lexol Conditioner Wipes on hand and I use them for quick touch ups and sometimes before putting a bag into storage at the end of the season - or if I am unsure how to clean and condition a delicate bag. They are very light products and not the best for deep conditioning but they are okay in some situations, and they are unlikely to do much harm to a delicate or unusual bag.

I use Blackrock's Leather n Rich as the final application (after Leather CPR) on most of my glove-tanned leather rehabs, it really brightens and restores color and it hides a lot of scratches and flaws. You have to apply it very sparingly, rub it in quickly and buff. If you put it on too heavy it gets sticky. It has an odor but it fades soon.

The Leather Therapy & Restorer is good when I want something "in between" a light conditioner like Lexol and a thicker creamy conditioner like Leather CPR. The Italian Coach bags have pebbled caviar leather and they have a finish that prevents much absorption by a conditioner. I don't use thick conditioners because I don't want to have any white, gunky stuff drying in the "little valleys" between the "raised bumps". It also give the bags a nice shine and hides some scratches and flaws.

I also use Leather Therapy Restorer & Conditioner when I've given a bath to a glove-tanned leather bag and it is drying out very quickly - or parts of it are drying out quickly. It slows down the drying process and helps to prevent stiffness, cracking, and curling.

I often use Leather CPR and sometimes Blackrocks on glove-tanned pebbled leather bags even though the leather has bumps and valleys - but I put them on sparingly, rub in quickly, and wipe away the excess. You can always to another application later, after there has been some time for the product to be absorbed into the leather.

I've successfully used DYO Reptile Conditioner on genuine snakeskin and lizard bags.

Yep! I'm the Mad Chemist!

I would use Saphir creme delicate. I've used it on lambskin and other leathers I didn't want to darken.

Ok...putting the cats amongst the pigeons...Have any of you used a beeswax product on your bags?
Yes, I have. I've used Skidmores. It is similar to Blackrock. I think Obenaufs LP has beeswax in it, but I don't really care for it. If you get a beeswax product, I would use it as the last step because I think it would keep conditioners from soaking in.

I have a product from the local Saddler in town..beewax and plant mix. Might use it on the pocket purse after if finishes absorbing CPR on its front flap. The rest of the bag is ok...but the front flap is so dry and a bit more faded than the rest of the bag and so a bit dull.
ETA...parden the spelling...even with predictive text Im just not awake enough yet.
