I took this in more natural lighting (didn’t have time to go into the sun earlier today). Black Court vs. Navy blue Devon

Am I still not seeing it?? I don’t see any blue at all! Maybe a tinge but I think my eyes are trying to see it... or maybe it’s just black! I don’t know but I feel your disappointment about it wishing it was more blue! It’s currently being dunked right now... maybe something will happen to the color in the bath.

Sorry...but its all black to me....I cant see blue at all.

70s and 80s navy is indistinguishable from black unless you put them side by side in sunlight, and even then it is hard to tell. I have one precreed bag that I keep going back and forth on whether it is navy or black. 90s navy might be a little more blue. Coach used navy zippers in nearly everything until the late 90s, so the zipper color doesn't mean anything.
Were there any other blue colors then? I have a dark blue Courier which is clearly blue. I’ll post it tomorrow next to a black bag.

It might have been recolored. Some products can change the surface texture of the leather, almost like a coat of paint.

Leather Refinisher can have that feel. I've had it peel off with a hot bath and a little scrubbing.

I don’t know if you remember this shiny Court bag I have but I decided to try working on it. I noticed that the rubbery/slippery feeling is only on the outside flap, front, back and bottom. The leather on the inside flap, inside, and sides (and straps too) actually feel normal.

I just gave it a hot bath and scrubbed it with a magic eraser. Then for good measure I wiped it with acetone and then scrubbed it again. The rubbery and slippery feeling is still there. I’ll see how it is as it dries whether I should do it again - in your experience, does it take several times of scrubbing to get rid of leather refinisher or acetone wiping to get rid of shoe polish? If it’s been recolored, is there anything I can do about it? Thank you guys again for all of your help!

ETA. good lord I might have ruined it! It’s drying weird and I don’t deserve to be on this thread. I shouldn’t have tried...

I sorry it didn't work out. Without knowing what was used on it before you got it, it's hard to say what could have been done to rescue it.

I hope you're not too discouraged and will try again on a different bag. Maybe you can salvage some parts of the Court bag (if it's ruined) to use on other bags. I'm thinking the strap may be fine.

Thanks for the encouragement. I slathered on some CPR before going to sleep because it was drying weirdly in patches that I haven’t seen before (which prompted the freak out, haha). It looks “ok” this morning. The shine is gone but the weird texture is still there (which is definitely different to the touch compared to the strap, inside flap, etc). I don’t know if I’ve completely ruined it but I’m going to keep putting on conditioner to see what happens. Maybe I will post photos later on when I’m home for advice.

I will definitely continue rehabs if i can. All the other bags I’ve done have been successful but those were mainly just dunk, condition, or touch up some edges with leather paint. This one I just didn’t know what to do!

I got my Legacy small satchel today and I realized the base is stiff. Did Coach use cardboard in the bottoms of certain bags? Does anyone know? I'd like to dunk it but won't if there is a cardboard base. Maybe hold the bottom out of the water?
Hi CoachMaven, I never had a bag with cardboard but I am new to Coach rehab so I'm looking forward to the experts' opinions.

I took some photos. I’ve been applying leather CPR several times a day but more in the evening. Any thoughts from experience rehabbers?? Did I mess it up??

*you may have to click to see all the images of before and after

“Shiny” before photo vs after hot bath/scrubbing/acetone (only did that on the front and back of the bag, as the other parts of the bag didn’t appear seem shiny or

Before and after photo next to another Court bag that I’ve rehabbed previously (both authenticated by the AT thread):

Bonus freak out photo of 5 minutes after I gave it the bath/scrubbing/acetone:

Moral of the story: Don’t buy shiny bags!!!!!

I think it looks great - definitely a lot better than it did before you worked on it! I would call that a success.

(I can see why you freaked out though, looking at that picture of the bag just after the bath.)

Thanks!! I wasn’t sure what to think just yet. I’m not done yet and hoping that the cpr and blackrocks will make the leather look more similar to the other bag I have.

Hello all!! So I have this mildewed/molded Sheridan wallet that I’m thinking of dunking in a 50:50 water:vinegar bath to start. Does anyone have other ideas of how to tackle the cloth bill fold area other than this? Thanks!

Are you sure it's mildew? It looks oily to me.

The Sheridan lining reacts VERY badly to alcohol and acetone. I don't know about vinegar. It might be fine, but I'd be cautious about using it.

Before dunking, I'd try scrubbing the lining with a solution of warm water, dish soap and (maybe) vinegar using a dampened gauze pad or cotton cloth. Dunking is a bit risky, but if all else fails I would probably risk it.
