Hello all!! So I have this mildewed/molded Sheridan wallet that I’m thinking of dunking in a 50:50 water:vinegar bath to start. Does anyone have other ideas of how to tackle the cloth bill fold area other than this? Thanks!

Are you sure it's mildew? It looks oily to me.

The Sheridan lining reacts VERY badly to alcohol and acetone. I don't know about vinegar. It might be fine, but I'd be cautious about using it.

Before dunking, I'd try scrubbing the lining with a solution of warm water, dish soap and (maybe) vinegar using a dampened gauze pad or cotton cloth. Dunking is a bit risky, but if all else fails I would probably risk it.
I agree. Every wallet I've ever dunked turned out more wrinkled and warped looking. I've never dunked a Sheridan wallet.

It’s definitely mildew/mold is stinks so bad! Lol
I know others haven’t had much luck dunking wallets but I’m only into it for 12$ and seems like Sheridans would be a little more hardy than their counterparts. I’m afraid the smell will not quit unless something drastic is done.

Well then, I'd say dunk away.

I got lucky dunking a Legacy wallet, inspired by @katev 's report here: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club.833400/page-44#post-25839847

Mine had some scratches and the color was gray-green to begin with:

and the coin purse was dirty:

I scrubbed the coin purse lining with a solution of Dawn, water and vinegar on a gauze pad. Then I dunked the whole wallet in cold water and Dawn, then rinsed. Total time in water probably 10 minutes. The pink leather on the inside didn't seem to get evenly wet, but I was worried about leaving it in too long so I took it out.

The pink part dried back to its original even color, although there was some faint dye transfer to the underside of the flap. I didn't notice any staining of the fabric lining, and the coin purse lining was cleaner. The color turned out a nice shade of green and the scratches disappeared:

The wallet looks great! I've had mixed success with wallets, sometimes they rehab well and sometimes they come out all stretched and misshapen.

One trick that sometimes works, while it is still damp and if it looks like it will end up stretched and out of shape, I take plastic wallet cards - old credit card, things like that - and put them in the slots while the wallet is drying; sometimes it helps.

What a great idea!

So here are after shots of my most recent effort at going through my rehab pile! I was very fortunate to pick up this Maggie in Periwinkle for just under $30 shipped. Have had my eye out for Periwinkle for a awhile, but it is definitely a color that doesn’t age or wear well in vintage Coach, IMO. This bag was very clean, with the beginning of color loss on the piping and the strap. And a spot of obvious color loss on the strap. However, the leather, full weight, was really stiff. Really stiff. The above shows one side of the bag.image.jpg
And here is the other. (ETA, the photo of this side is slightly truer to actual color) I did a briefer dunk, 10 min, barely warm water and a teaspoon -ish of Lexol Cleaner. Light toothbrush scrub and shot 5 min rinse. Multiple light apps of Leather CPR and a final app of Blackrock.
I am super pleased. The CPR brought back a lot of suppleness to the leather and the final touch of BR gave it a little more suppleness!! I can’t stop buffing lol. I believe, but did not expect, the conditioning improved a touch of the color loss on the upper and lower piping and strap piping. A touch. If you zoom in on the upper piping by the buckles, you do see the color loss that did not improve. I am looking forward to using this as a cute special occasion bag!
But a word of caution, I have seen some very dirty and worn vintage Periwinkle bags out there. I do not believe they will lend themselves to a good outcome.
