So I’m eyeing a beige/bone pocket purse and was wondering if there are any sure ways to keep verdigris away. From the seller’s photos I can already see a light tinge of green on the leather around one of the d-rings on the side of the bag.. you really have to zoom in but I think that’s probably going to be a problem. And in my limited experience verdigris is really a pain on a light coloured bag! I’m leaning towards not getting the bag because of this but am curious to see if anyone has any advice on this problem in general. Thanks!

I've never been able to clean verdigris off leather. I don't have a problem with it coming back once I clean and polish the hardware. I live in a dry climate.

Does this crossbody strap from my Fossil purple bag that's a wreck match close enough? When I am wearing it the colors aren't right next to each other. The fabric side matches almost exactly lol. The leather looks like a closer match IRL than the pic.

I ended up bathing the brown one because it had a faint perfume smell. It's turning out great after CPR.

I love Fossil straps! It is such an intelligent design, giving you infinite adjustments. I think it looks fine.

Thanks for the input whateve. I agree.. I think I’ve been able to lighten it somewhat but never completely removing (which is why I’m considering dyeing my beige Devon despite all the time and effort spent in cleaning it!)

You are so right! I loved that bag and you can tell by the look of it. I was checking it out today and it has faded so bad but the leather under the pocket flaps matches the Coach garcia color. The strap works as is and I was sad to cut the antique brass rings off the Fossil (saving them in case I need them for something else), there is no saving this bag. LOL. I might use the rings to extend the length of the Coach shoulder strap.

On a dark colored bag I would be OK with it, but on that bag, I wouldn't want to deal with it.

Well I had been wanted something, anything lol for forever in Periwinkle. I got this Maggie for about $35 shipped. It was incredibly stiff, with some color loss at the top piping a little bit more than the bottom piping. And one section of the strap appeared to have a bit of color loss too. But it was very clean otherwise. You can see the spot of color loss on the strap. I dunked it the other night with a little blue Abbie. I am happy to say that a 10 minute swish in warm water with a little Lexol Cleaner, followed by several apps of CPR have made the leather soft. I applied the CPR to the piping with my finger. I would swear it enhanced the piping a bit.
I want to give it one more app of CPR and then an app of Black rock. And then it can hang with my *Small Bag Collection*
ETA, would love a bag in Periwinkle from the Full grain line that House and whateve have! And that’s a paper towel sticking out of the pocket. It is the last part to dry.
Do you mean from the Sonoma line? I just saw a periwinkle small flap Sonoma crossbody.... maybe you should take that temperation away from me. ;)

I agree! My new basic bag (BT by the way) had some verdigris discolouration but once I washed it in vinegar the green went away. The bag is left with beautiful patina - and I absolutely love how it turned out!

So it’s settled then.. no more beige bags! Haha.. thanks!

By the way I noticed that the BT basic bag (made in USA) has much thicker leather than the black one I have that was made in Costa Rica in 2001. The zipper and hardware also appear more heavy duty... Does that sound about right?

I think so. The older Basic Bags had those amazing industrial brass zippers.

That's not good. I've read about sellers on the ebay forum who had to accept a return through GSP but it was unclear who paid for the shipping. I'm always worried that the GSP center will repackage my item not as carefully as I did. I don't know if the buyers ever get my thank you notes that are enclosed.

hmmm so far- I think sending thru GSP there has been no repacking. Ive gotten intricately wrapped bags in colorful tissue and thank you notes! so I think packages arent repacked :)
