I started to use the Dremel Lite, cordless, and although I am new to this tool, I find it more efficient than hand polishing. I'm just cautious to use steel the wool attachment on it, afraid to scratch the brass.
I use the 000 steel wool but do it in a circular motion by hand. I would think a steel wool attachment would be too strong and remove too much brass.

I just picked up the same one. I was going to get the even smaller one but that's not cordless so husband adviced I get the cordless one for convenience.

I just picked up these too from Lowe's. They didn't have 000 so I went with 0000. I hope it still works!

This is valuable experience for you, I hope you don't regret buying this bag. I have a black Willis covered in shoe polish and I have no idea how to fix it. I guess we're in the same position, we have nothing to lose but a lot to learn so we might as well give it a go and see what happens.
Solidarity!! Let’s do this

But you’re right, it definitely was a learning experience, at least now I know how to recognize it when I see it again. And maybe how to rehab it... if I can successfully do it.

Okay, so all the Dremel and steel wool take got me to dunk a bag! Got moving on the larger Garcia.
View attachment 4586781 So I seem to be going through a purple phase . . . $30 something each, with shipping.
Obviously this is not full weight glove tanned leather. In fact, the leather feels extremely thin! I submerged it in warm water, about 2 1/2 gallons with a little Lexol mixed in, light toothbrush scrub for 10 minutes followed by a short rinse in warm water. With absolutely no color loss in the water. Which leads me to think the leather may be burnished. It is drying. Will wait for the morning to start a little CPR.

I can't wait to see how this turns out because I have been afraid to do any newer bags like this.

I tend to dunk first and ask if it was a good idea later. After being advised by some here that I could put a suede bag in the washer, and doing it, I am convinced these bags can handle a lot! Catbird9 dunked Legacy bags with a Tattersall lining that did well. I have a Legacy Flap that I wiped down thoroughly with no problem. I do draw the line at a Vachetta bag. But I know one or two people here have done wonderful stuff with vachetta. I would look up those posts and do that research.
It also helps to work with inexpensive bags. This one cost $35, so if I did something irreparable, it wouldn’t sting too bad.

I am coming to the conclusion, part of being a seasoned vintage Coach aficionado is ending up with shoe polish and/ or a fake at some point! I got sucked into a fake C@urt Bag early on. I keep it with my bags where I can see it as a reminder

Well. I already got a fake and now this shiny plasticky bag... so I guess I’m getting somewhere, even though I’m not remotely close to being seasoned! But I have to admit it’s fun and it’s definitely becoming quite a habit (while my husband looks on just shaking his head at my growing collection, haha, as well as my I increasingly frequent stops to the thrift stores as we are “on the way” to places). I appreciate reading through all the posts and info here, as well as advice from the seasoned folks!

Well I'm on track too then! I've got two fake Willises and a shoe polish Willis. Sprinkle me with salt and pepper, I'm ready to be considered seasoned!

I've had both lol. I got a fake Murphy, I should've know because someone made an art project out of it. I've had a shoe polish large flap bag, which is a shame because its s bag I've never really seen another.
