The piping near the buckles on my stewardess is tearing before my eyes. Added more cpr but it continues. Any advice?

Have you ever ruined an item with conditioner? I bought a late 90s Coach wallet at a thrift store. It looked brand new except the leather seemed almost powdery. I thought conditioner would perk it up. I put CPR all over. It looks almost okay on the outside but the leather inside is very stained. It looks terrible. It's been a few weeks and it hasn't gotten any better. I tried heating with a hair dryer, adding more conditioner to try to even it out, and cleaning with vinegar. Any suggestions?GEDC7360.JPG

I don't know what might help but it almost looks like a marbled effect. I don't think it looks too bad. The insides of coin purses can get stained by coins so maybe that's what it is.

It looked brand new before I put conditioner on there. My DH thinks it looks fine. I feel terrible that I ruined something that was in mint condition before I touched it.

Question about the Patricia.
Would you stuff her and lay her flat on her back with the flap stretched out...or would you stuff her to hang with the flap folded over the top like she would be in use.?

Usually with bags that have flaps, first I lay them flat on the back with the flap stretched out. It will dry faster that way. Before it is completely dry, I sit it up with the flap folded over the way it would be in use.

There isn't a leather version as far as I know. It was just regular RIT. It probably says on the package not to use on leather. I've done it three times, once to a Sonoma bag, once to a suede bag and the third time to a 2012 Legacy duffle. What I learned was that if you are using the powder, don't add the salt. It just dries out the leather. I didn't worry about colorfastness and I never had color transfer afterwards. Even without the salt, it does dry out the leather so you need to condition a lot afterwards. I also learned not to use super hot water. It was fine with the Sonoma but with the newer bag, it melted off all the edge coat, which was brown and left little brown stains all over. So the 2012 duffle was kind of a failure since I ended up using Leather refinisher by Wood n Stuff after. I believe it would have been perfect if the water wasn't hot, but maybe then the dye wouldn't have penetrated as well. I dunked both the Sonoma and the duffle. I think I left them in the water overnight. The suede bag I had originally used Fiebings suede dye but as soon as I brushed the suede, the dye came off! I tried dyeing it again and the same thing happened. After that, I think I used the liquid RIT and just painted it on. I had used the painting method of RIT for fabric bags before. The biggest problem with either painting or dunking was getting the color on evenly.
Never mind! I should have kept on reading.
