Yes, definitely treat the spots with straight vinegar before dunking, and I'd use vinegar in the bath and rinse too.

Your bag is a Basic Bag, also called a Zippered Clutch.

Ah Basic Bag! Funny I knew what it was called when I purchased it but then I was watching all the other sort of similar styles and now I’m confusing the names lol Can’t keep them straight!

Thanks for the tip, I may tackle her this weekend as nothing else is wrong with it. At least it doesn’t SMELL moldy :)

Hello ladies, I need your input and TIA.
I am ready to work on a bag that has a cut on the strap edge. My idea is to glue the sides as close together as possible, but do I do that before dunking or afterwards?
Would I be able to stretch the leather a bit while wet, or perhaps it will shrink and the gap would be bigger? If I glue before dunking I imagine the glue would dissolve?

Is the first time I try this, so I am lost, LOL View attachment 4515730

I am ready to dunk, any input? Thanks.

I lost count. I did it till it wouldn’t suck it up any more. Way more than 5. They were thin but numerous! Lol
That’s what she said
I just applied the fifth layer of CPR on my old British Tan Scooter(?) from the early 90s that was neglected for decades. It's still drinking it in, so I'm going to keep applying. No pictures from before, but the transformation just from dunk and CPR has been amazing. It is hard to know when to switch to Blackrock.

Switch when the bag stops absorbing the CPR. You'll be able to tell when it isn't absorbing any longer. It will just kind of sit on top of the leather instead of absorbing the way it has been.

Random thought. I need to develop some ambition to clean hardware. I’m pathetic. I use a silver polish cloth.
Your hardware looks wonderful. Thank God I can pass mine off as “antique brass”.
Thank you -- I confess I have never polished brass before, but my husband was all too happy to demonstrate and bought me some Dremel accessories to do it properly. He used to be in the Old Guard of the Army and was VERY familiar with polishing brass for countless hours!

So a little update...

The stain on the back is still there but significantly lighter. Maybe it'll be better once I condition or end up dunking it. It's not a deal breaker for me since it's light and on the back of the bag.

I ended up spraying the inside with straight vinegar (bad move?) and moved it to hanging outside during the day and in the house at night. I realized the garage gets too warm. I think the smell is a little better but I don't know. It's not even close to being usable. I thought I would give it another day to make sure it's fully dry then put the odor remover things back in and put it back in a bag. I was thinking about ordering some of the charcoal odor removers that were recommended. Or should I just bite the bullet and dunk the darn thing? I know this process can take time but don't want to be wasting time on something that isn't going to work either. Not that anything is a guarantee.
I think dunking is worth a shot. Use vinegar in the bathwater (not sure how much, a splash maybe?) and stuff her with towels to absorb overnight. I have a feeling that dunking will do more than anything else to help alleviate the smell. I also do a CPR application after the bag is dunked but still a bit damp (technically I do the first application after towel-drying it).

Yeah, I gave the pouch a 6th CPR a couple nights ago and it kind of sat on top for longer than it had previously without really soaking in... I think she's as sick of the CPR as I am, so I'll do Blackrock next and call it a day. I've abused her for at least a week now!
