Twins!

I found this style at Goodwill recently in their locked case. It was red and I went gaga... then I looked at the edges and there were holes all along the back bottom edge.. which maybe I would've attempted to repair if they hadn't made it $50!!!!! I complained and asked if they realised it was in such poor condition and they offered to reduce the price by $10.. I had to leave it behind, very disappointed. It had stains too.. and I think it sold. I didn't see it still there yesterday. I have bought all my daypacks there for $15 or under in better condition usually. They are a great style!

That said I have rehabbed a couple of nice reds recently. Maybe I'll get time to take a pic to share today.
I've wanted a daypack for awhile now, of course I just could never find a color that I was into. I bought this guy on etsy it was pretty pricey, but I love the color.....sooooo I gotted it lol. I always found goodwill kind of silly with there prices, at least goodwills around me. I can't wait to see what she looks like all cleaned and conditioned.

Orange is a great color and hard to find! I have a belted pouch in orange.

It sounds like you didn't wipe it good enough. You have to buff with the paper towel. Once it gets tacky, it is too late to do that. All you can do is wait.

What happened was that I applied it and put it aside. Then I read the directions and wiped it. After that, hours later, it was tacky. Then I checked it about an hour ago and it was just a little tacky. I buffed it just now and it's even less tacky.

I guess waiting now is all I can do.
When I have found some of my bags to be a little tacky, due to over conditioning, I have also found using them is also a good way to either wear off, or work in the conditioner. I started rehabbing in earnest about 3 years ago. Some of the early bags, that get or got a bit of use, need some attention/cleaning/ reconditioning regularly. So using these bags may offset any (over)conditioning.Ymmv.
I was , as you may have guessed by my posts, erring on the side of too much!!! Of everything. Dunk first and ask later! Which is maybe why I am always looking for those < $30 bags. My pleasing results are peppered with a few duds. I’d like to post some duds, but I don’t want to scare off newbies:lol:

Oh @Lake Effect please post some duds, it's the mistakes we learn the most from.Just picture this inexperienced, impatient newbie with a gallon bucket of cpr dunkink the whole bag in to it in her haste to do that parched leather some good. You see how many innocent bags you could save by showing us some of the dont's.:P

When some of us first start out rehabbing, we feel like we can save everything, then you quickly realize something's are out of your scope. Lol.

I am planning travel in a couple days and dug out my travel wallet aka my old every day wallet that couldn’t hold all the cards grown up life seemed to require. I noticed it was looking really sad (it gets touched by hands covered in sunscreen, melted gelato, park germs - I do Disney a lot etc) and one time my water resistant purse stopped resisting and it got soaked. Paid for dinner with sopping wet bills lol. So I put some CPR on it. Seems to have perked it up.

Hmm. I was waiting for the Willis to not be tacky anymore and then I was gonna put the turnlock back on. Anyway, I've been buffing it like crazy. Last I checked was last night, and the bag was still a little tacky. The leather actually looks really good too!

I would like to see the mistakes! I'm sure a lot of us could learn from them. Mine can't be photographed or I'd share that way too.

I used Woolite for soap for the dunk. Leather CPR is must. Blackrock for the finishing coat. I used Brasso for cleaning the hardware.

My recommendations are in green:

COACH LEATHER CLEANER
COACH LEATHER LOTION CONDITIONER
LEATHER CPR
BLACKROCK LEATHER N'RICH

BRASSO - OK but steel wool and Cape Cod Polishing cloths are easier and just as effective
WEENOL - OK but steel wool and Cape Cod Polishing cloths are easier and just as effective
NO
Kiwi Saddle Soap or another brand - too alkaline, not recommended
Dawn dish soap
Palmolive dish soap - probably fine, I've never used it
VINEGAR

Cleaning Steps?
Remove accessories
Vacuum or brush inside
Remove any verdigris (green stuff on brass)

Dunk in WARM water w/ soap
SOAK 15 - 20 min
Rinse in warm water with 1/8 - 1/4 cup vinegar
BLOT with towels to absorb excess water

Stuff LIGHTLY with towel(s) to reshape
Wipe with saddle soap? NO, see above
Apply conditioner...How long after dunking the bag should conditioner be applied?
While still damp. Then every 12 to 24 hours until bag is dry and no more conditioner is sinking in. Buff with horsehair brush or microfiber cloth between coats.
Brush suede parts using a suede brush or nail brush, while still slightly damp, to restore texture

Polish brass

Thank you for the feedback. Okay, woolite soap... That's new. Why that type of soap?

Because it's gentle and perfume free. Someone else here posted a while back and suggested it.

While the lack of perfumes is a desirable quality, I found information that Woolite is too alkaline to be used on leather.

Dishwashing liquids are closer to a neutral pH. Adding vinegar to your rinse water balances the pH to slightly acidic which is best for leather.
